We take customer complaints very seriouslyThank you for allowing us the opportunity to respondOur contract clearly states that the non-refundable security deposit is in fact non-refundable in the event of a cancellation. It is VERY standard in our industry to have non-refundable security
deposits. The client initialed this clause and signed the contractWhen we book a room for an event, we have tangible costs - the largest of which is a sales commission that we pay to our sales teamNon-refundable security deposits exist to cover these expenses and to protect our room inventoryWe pride ourselves on our customer service and our reputation for being fair and ethicalWe're simply adhering to our contract and our long-time operating policiesThank you
Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
As I've stated numerous times, I am not fighting the legality of the contract. I read the contract, understood the terms, and signed it. My complaint is clearly filed under customer service issues, which is what I am displeased with. Choosing to see every single client as the same--and subsequently, view the policy only as black and white--is not superior customer service. The Madison states that the non-refundable deposit is standard in the industry, and that is true. However, I know for a fact that businesses in this industry do not always follow policy "just because they can," but instead will choose to look at the client individually and at their specific circumstances. In fact, the venue I ended up booking with offered me a cancelled date in order to refund the deposit of a client who needed to cancel due to personal issues. My circumstances--canceling an event 1 year and 5 months out with absolutely no planning of any kind, is not the same circumstance as perhaps a client who canceled months out from an event where the business had invested time and money on behalf of the planning process. Choosing to enforce the contract simply because they can, instead of working with their clients in the interest of their well being, shows that the business' sole interest is in the profit.Additionally, The Madison states that they pay out sales commissions from the $1,000.00 deposit. While that may be true, there is always the option of the company absorbing the loss (which I highly doubt is anywhere close to $1,000.00) in order to be fair to their employees and provide excellent customer service to their client.
