My 2 roommates and I are looking to rent a house from [redacted] from Homes For Rent Realty. The first time we contacted her, we wanted to look at the house we wanted to rent. She was 10 minutes late to the showing. We were told that we needed to have a cosigner for the property, and that the owner had to be asked for permission. We were told by [redacted] that she would talk to the owner. After over 2 weeks of not returning inquiries about the property, she called out of the blue saying we could use cosigners. From here we started the application process. First, we had to fill out an application on her website. For this, we entered social security numbers and other very confidential information on her website, which was not secure. The application she used on her website was so unprofessionally made and imbedded, only one of the now 6 applicants was able to figure it out. We filled out an application, did a credit check, background check, and identity check, and she still was emailing us things to fill out. When I say "we", I mean me, my roommates, my father, and my roommates parents. [redacted] did not help us during this application process at all. In addition, she requested that she go to my other 2 roommates apartment to inspect it before we continue the application process. Not only is this a gross violation of privacy, but I also believe that this is illegal. Today I called her with some concerns, she cut me off before I could even start a complaint, and promptly told us we were no longer able to apply for the house. The way she conducts business is extremely unprofessional, and she is extremely discriminatory when it comes to college students applying for a home. I recommend that her business practices be investigated because what she is doing is probably illegal, and beyond unprofessional.
