Contract to build wheelchair ramp for me was not adhered to as agreed upon.Work needs to be torn down & rebuilt to code or money refunded.Bid from High Standards Home Improvement for $2,400to build to code or better, a wheelchair ramp was accepted & contract was signed on August 17th. My husband took Mr. [redacted] to [redacted] on August 18th and gave him $1,300 in cash for the materials, which is what the contract called for, with remainder to be paid when job was completed to our satisfaction. On August 22, Mr. [redacted] called to ask for more money. He said he needed $200 more for wood. I told him I would go the $200, he stated he would bare the cost if it went over that. On August 22,my husband took him to [redacted] where he proceeded to buy $375 worth of wood which he charged to my husband's HD credit card. They returned to our home & he began building again. His worker realized the work was substandard & walked off the job because Mr. [redacted] was not building the ramp correctly, but Mr. F. kept up the terrible work. On Sept. 5, Mr. F.waited until my husband left and my caregiver left for the day and he entered my bedroom & demanded that I pay him the balance, even though he had not completed the deck. I reminded him of our agreement, but he was so verbally abusive, I finally agreed to give him another $500, to which he strongly objected because he wanted the balance. I refused & at this point I demanded that he leave my house. After that he called me & continued to harass me. My caregiver called him & tried to reason with him, but he just yelled. I contacted [redacted] and sent videos of the wobbly sides and rails on the ramp. I also asked for help from people on [redacted] for a way to correct the problem. Three builders have told me that it should be torn down and rebuilt and that most of the wood cannot be reused to fix it.Desired SettlementSince Mr. [redacted] clearly cannot build the wheelchair ramp to spec or code as he was contracted to do, plus he used some substandard wood & 2 yr. old cement around what few posts he used, I would like for him to refund the money I gave him. That includes the $1,300, plus $375, plus $500, plus the $282 I paid 1 of the workers, which is a total of $2,457. It is clear that I will have to start all over again with new wood and new laborers and it is also clear that Mr. [redacted] does not intend to complete the job. I wish you could see what a mess it is. I need my money back so that I can have a safe ramp for me & my wheelchair. On Sept. 14, I sent him pictures and a video & told him I was reporting him to Revdex.com and was posting them on [redacted] as well as contacting[redacted]. I have had no reply.
