I understand from an industry insider that this business has changed hands and that there are many complaints about shoddy workmanship.
From personal experience I can say that your valuables will not be in good hands. They destroyed an antique clock that needed only to have the handle to the mechanism that sets the time reattached: it was returned to me with the mechanism inserted in the casing backwards, the mechanism that keeps time broken, the minute hand bent, the screws that hold the mechanism in place replaced with others that are too short, the onyx around the screw holes cracked and chipped, and the face replaced with one that is too small (so it falls out). It is taking three professionals to repair that damage.
Worse, an antique hand-painted china plate of great sentimental value, which had broken into 11 clean-edged pieces was returned to me with the main crack, which bisects the plate, nowhere near level, and with cheap glue peeling off the back.
The owner offered to restore the plate to "like new" to make all this up to me, but two months later she has cancelled both appointments for me to retrieve the plate, and I must presume she or her unskilled employees have destroyed the plate entirely.
Yesterday I filed suit for damages.
What an ordeal.
There are other restorers easy to find. Do not go to Hess. The business rides on its former reputation which it no longer deserves, not by a long shot.
Review: I took an item to the store for repair in December and still have not received my crystal glassware fixed. I have called several times and even stopped by but they keep telling me they will call me when it is complete. It has been in excess of 6 months. I paid a $40 deposit.Desired Settlement: I would like my original crystal glass that I took to the store returned (even if not repaired) as well as my $40 deposit.

Response:
My
name is Lada G[redacted] and I am the owner of Hess Restorations Inc.
I am writing in response to [redacted]'s complaint about her crystal glass
restoration.
The process of restoration can be complicated and time consuming especially
when it comes to glass. [redacted]'s glass has a very thin stem and multiple
breaks. It is a particularly delicate process. Our glass specialist has been
working diligently to restore the glass to a usable condition. The project took
longer than anticipated but was recently completed.
We have currently reached out to [redacted] to express our apologies for the
delay and we are arranging a delivery of the completed restoration.
We are confident that this issue will be resolved to the satisfaction of both
parties.
We value our customers and their satisfaction is very important to us.
Sincerely, Lada G[redacted]
