October 6, 2015To Whom It May Concern:This letter is in reference to the claim being made by [redacted] visited my automotive shop inquiring about our price to install an alternator to his vehicle. The alternator was provided by Mr. [redacted], which he purchased at [redacted]. The price...
given to him for the installation was $200. Upon installation it was discovered that the alternator he brought did not have the required volts. I asked him to go in exchange the alternator, as it appeared that it was a defective alternator. I also specified to him that he could have the new alternator tested to make sure that the new one would not be defective also. Alternators are often reconstructed so it is important to test them.Mr. [redacted] came in again and asked for us to install the new alternator. After installation the truck was left running for about an hour and was also taken for a test drive. During that time there was no indication that there was any gas leaking, nor did the vehicle lights indicate there were any issues. The truck also registered the correct voltage of 13.6. Despite this, I did inform Mr. [redacted] that there could be another electrical issue and gave him the option to leave the vehicle so that we could further analyze any possible problems. He decided he would just take the vehicle. From the beginning, Mr. [redacted] came in inquiring about the price only. We did not give him any diagnostics, nor give him any information about the alternator. He came in with the alternator that [redacted] had advised him to get. Mr. [redacted] wanted us to install the alternator he brought in and that is the service that we did. The alternator he brought in appeared to be identical to the original, aside from the fact that it was reconstructed. As far as the lack of communication between Volvo dealership and myself, there has never been an intention to be uncooperative. My busy work schedule and time for family summer vacation did not allow me to speak to a female representative until around the first week of August. I then explained to her the situation and also informed her that I would be more than willing to replace the alternator, with the alternator that the dealership would provide.
