AAMCO was trying to charge me $1,520.82 to fix my AC and all my minivan truly needed to work was a fuse replaced for $25 (I did myself)
Repair Order: J130183
Date: 03/14/20 12:56 PM
I took my 2007 Honda Odyssey to AAMCO Hermann Automotive LLC. Lexington, SC on 03-14-20 to be looked at. The AC was not working. Only was blowing hot air. My vehicle was inspected by technician: EDDIE
I was told by Eddie that this is what my vehicle needed in order for the AC to work
(PARTS):
COMPRESSOR +
RECEIVER DRYER +
134A Refrig Recycled or New
(LABOR)
Complete Assembly with transfer of parts-with clutch +
AC evacuate, recover & recharge
TOTAL COST
$1,520.82
I was outraged. This felt like a total rip off. I DID NOT have these items fixed by AAMCO. All I paid was $34.66 which was for AC QUICK PERFORMANCE CHECK (Invoice #: ***) fee and I left.
I learned from watching a YouTube video that all my car needed was a fuse to be replaced. So I drove down to Autozone and bought a new fuse, installed the new fuse, and voila, the AC was working. And all I spent was $25.
I feel like AAMCO is very shady was trying to get a lot of unnecessary money out of me. AAMCO is supposed to have Certified technicians working for them. It is very hard to believe that an "Experienced Technician" would not think about checking the fuses. But he was very quick to tell me that I needed to spend over $1,500 to fix the problem. I am writing this to the Revdex.com so that AAMCO does not try to rip off anybody else. It's just flat out wrong. I am an honest person and I would NEVER try to do this to someone. I expect high standards from a so-called reputable business like AAMCO.
I want a refund of $34.66 that I paid for AC quick performance check and I want AAMCO to run an honest business. People like myself work hard for their money and don't deserve to be ripped off by some shady technicians
Mr. brought his vehicle in because the air conditioning was not working correctly (not blowing cold). Upon inspection it was found that the compressor was not working and had no power. A relay for the compressor was blown, when the relay was swapped with another relay (the relay for the cooling fan was swapped with the blown relay for the compressor to see if to worked) the compressor did get power. The next step of the inspection was to check the high pressure and low pressure to make sure the compressor was engaging like it should. It was found that the compressor is starting to fail but has not completely failed. The way that this was determined was by checking the high pressure valve and the low pressure valve. The high pressure should have been close to 200 and the low pressure should have been around 40 if the compressor is working properly for the temperature of that day. The systems pressure on both the high side and the low side were 100. This indicates that the compressor is not working correctly. This was gone over with the customer and explained. No work was recommended at that time due to it not being a complete failure but a quote was given to the customer so they knew what was wrong and what it would take to fix if they decided to at a latter date. After the inspection was done the relays were then swapped back (the cooling fan had the relay that wasn't blown and the compressor had the one that was originally in it and blown) causing the compressor to again not have any power. Due to it not being very warm at the time of the inspection it was not something that was recommended to fix immediately. The customer was given the quote and paid for the A/C inspection and didn't object or have any issues with it while leaving. If Mr. did go to the auto parts store and get another relay to replace the blown on in the compressor it would have restored power to the compressor. While it is cool the compressor will not have as much strain on it to cool the vehicle. The air will be cool while the weather is cooler but as it gets warmer it will be more and more evident that it is not cooling as well as it should. Eventually this system will fail and will need the compressor but there is no way for us to say when that will be. The relay will be a temporary fix but it will not fix the high pressure and low pressure sides both reading at 100.
