I received an eye exam for glasses and during the exam the doctor and I had an off-the-cuff discussion regarding contactsI told the doctor that since I have transitional lenses my past optometrist told me contacts were not a good option and so I did not pursue themHe agreed and said they are not a very good solutionBut he said when I come to pick up my glasses he'll have a pair of contacts I can tryWe did not discuss needing a separate and additional eye examWhen I picked up my glasses they presented me with the contacts to try and then said let them settle in your eye a bitThen they led me to the exam room to see how they fitThey then billed me for another examClearly if he and my past optometrist both told me it is not a good option I would have refused going thru and being billed for a second and additional examBut it was not presented that wayIt was an off-the-cuff conversation and an offer from the Drto let me try a pair to see how they work/feelThis seems
Response to Complaint:
Patient Name: [redacted]
Revdex.com ID #: [redacted]
Date: 11/8/2016
An eye exam with contacts has three components:
1. Comprehensive exam that checks the health of the eye.
2. Refraction for glasses
3. Contact lens fit to check the contact fit and prescription.
If a...
patient expresses interest or elects to pursue contact lenses, they are initially presented with a Contact Lens Fee and Policy sheet. This form is given to the patient by the doctor who reviews the charges for contact lens services and products. The patient then signs the agreement.
In response to this complaint: the patient presented for an exam without contacts and expressed interest to the doctor about contacts. The doctor reviewed the abovementioned form and fees with the patient. The patient signed the form agreeing to the fees for contact lens services at this exam and was charged for the first two components mentioned above, and an appointment for the contact lens services was scheduled with the consent of the patient.
The patient later presented for a scheduled appointment to get fit into contacts at which time was charged the appropriate fitting fee (or the third component mentioned above).
Hawthorne Vision Center's decision: Since the patient never came back to have his trial contacts checked by the optometrist, the doctor has decided to reduce the level of service, resulting in a refund of $99.15.
