Hammond Builders

Steve Hammond was contracted to finish my basement. He did the work without permits, breaking numerous codes (electrical, plumbing, use of treated lumber for base plates, etc). I called the city for an inspection. They explained that he is not a licensed plumber or electrician. Their suggestion was to let them require him to pull the finish down to the studs to do the work properly. I opted to give him the opportunity to fix the big issues, which he hasn’t done in over four months. He either ignores messages, gives excuses, sets appointments that he doesn’t show for or most recently, states he doesn’t have the money to fix things. He showed to attempt a fix on the plumbing (the bathroom can’t be used at all due to plumbing issues), breaking something else and proceeding to leave. He attempted to install door brackets, but didn’t use screws that fit, so they stick up. He fixed a hole in the concrete, but left some kind of filler all over the flooring, which won’t come up. The ductwork pops nonstop with the heat on. I have hired two HVAC companies to determine the cause. Both say the framing around the ductwork is far too close, with some screwed into the ductwork. It doesn’t have room to expand, and therefore it loudly pops against the finishing nonstop. Even after he was given a second chance to correct the shotty finish work, he still left a great deal of it looking incredibly unprofessional (drywall issues, outlets not flush, ceiling texture a mess, hole in ceiling around a fan, you name it. I could go on with more issues. He gave a year warranty, but definitely isn’t sticking to it. He has been a nice guy, but definitely not someone you would want to hire.
