I would like to respond with the facts that I have regarding this complaint.2/10/17 Friday – Mr. [redacted] had purchased and took delivery of 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. Vehicle was purchased As Is with no warranty.2/11/17 Saturday – Mr. [redacted] stopped in with the vehicle and stated that the 4...
wheel drive did not work and the check engine light was on. He stated that he scanned vehicle with his scanner and got 2 codes out of the computer that one code was for a possible emissions problem and did not know what the other code was for. He stated that he would like to take the vehicle to his mechanic and get an estimate.2/11/17 Saturday – later that day – Mr. [redacted] stopped in with the vehicle and gave me an estimate for replacement of a Transfer Case Motor. The total estimate with tax was for $583.95. I explained to the customer that the vehicle was sold As Is with no warranty, but I would make a good will adjustment and noted on the check that this would be a final adjustment for $350.00. This check was cashed by the customer on 2/13/17. Mr. [redacted] had stated that he was going to put a wheel bearing on the vehicle because he thought that it needed it.2/13/17 Monday – Mr. [redacted] stopped in and stated that he was not satisfied with the $350.00 check he received and that he was going to the Revdex.com.2/16/17 Thursday – Mr. [redacted] stopped in and gave me a bill he received from his mechanic for Transfer case Motor replacement and a Left Front wheel bearing replacement totaling $983.34 and then stated that he had to buy a gas cap now as well. I explained to the customer that the vehicle was sold As Is and that I had already made a final good will adjustment to him. I explained to the customer that I did not sell the vehicle with a warranty. He stated that he was not done with this yet and left upset.I feel that the $350.00 good will adjustment that I paid the customer was more than fair for the $583.95 estimate that he gave me, when the vehicle was sold As Is with no warranty in the first place. On the supplied paperwork from the Revdex.com customer has stated that he is disputing $800.00 when he filled it out on 2/13/17 but he only had submitted me with an estimate of $583.95. It was not until 2/16/17 when he came with a second invoice that now was for a Transfer case motor and wheel bearing. I am unsure where a dispute amount of $800.00 is valid when the customer has stated on the Revdex.com form that he would like the dealer to make and pay for the necessary repairs to get the 4 wheel drive function to work. You may contact me at ###-###-#### if there are any further questions that you may have regarding this concern.
I am responding in regards to the additional concerns that Mr. [redacted] has now submitted to you.Mr. [redacted] has stated that the 4 wheel drive did not work and that the Check engine light came on with his initial complaint. On Mr. [redacted]’s second letter he stated that his mechanic had got 2 codes from the computer which one code was an emissions code and the second code was for an actuator motor to engage the 4 Wheel drive. He has stated on his 2nd letter that the wheel bearing is shot and that the 4 wheel drive could not be repaired without replacing the wheel bearing. Now, Mr. [redacted] is stating that the code in the computer was for an ABS sensor. When an ABS sensor fails, it will turn on the ABS light indicating a system failure. There was not an ABS light on when vehicle was test drove and the customer had not complained of an ABS light on. A Check engine light will indicate a system problem with emissions related items, which the customer had stated that he was going to get a gas cap to solve that concern. The ABS sensor is connected to the wheel bearing, but can be purchased separately with a GM Original Equipment sensor GM # [redacted], the aftermarket versions of the wheel bearing do service it with the bearing and sensor as one assembly but are a higher price for the part. The ABS sensor could have been diagnosed without disassembling the vehicle via scanning the ABS module for codes and checking the sensor at the connector to verify operation. The ABS sensor and the wheel bearing do not have any thing to do with a 4 Wheel Drive system not engaging. The vehicle was purchased As Is with no warranty. I have made a good will adjustment of $350.00 for the repair of the original complaint of the 4 wheel drive being inoperative based on an estimate that I had received from the customer that had a mechanic of his choice give an estimate of repairs based upon his diagnosis of the vehicle. The estimate received had no explanation of the failed component and no failure codes listed, but I still was willing to give the customer a good will adjustment. This was made as a final adjustment to the customer and no further promises of paying for any additional repairs was made. If the customer would like to have future repairs covered, there are extended warranty plans that can be purchased for this vehicle.
