Guaranty Bank, which does business as BestBank in Michigan
and Georgia, is responding to a complaint from [redacted]. [redacted]
requested a split deposit to her accounts on 10/28/15. The check hold was placed
on the checking account instead of the savings account, as [redacted] requested,
which resulted in overdraft fees. Prior
to the complaint [redacted] received a courtesy overdraft fee reversal of $37 on
11/3 and $111 on 11/9. [redacted], our
[redacted], spoke with [redacted] and apologized for this error. She agreed
to refund all the overdraft fees due to this error. The remaining overdraft
fees were credited to the account on 11/30 and 12/1. [redacted] also agreed to
reimburse [redacted] for any merchant fees due to this error once [redacted]
provides documentation for the merchant fees to [redacted].
Review: Best Bank has charged me overdraft fees by stacking fees before applying a paycheck posted on the same day. I also have opted out of overdraft fees however they claim that Paypal debits are not the same thing and therefore opting out does not apply. I have gone round with them on this many times because I opted out.
I deposited my paycheck on September 30th and they put a hold on it. This showed pending account credits. When they took the hold off (which started when they "changed their policy" a few months ago even though my paychecks have never bounced) then instead of applying the paycheck first they applied two small debits, gave me two $37 overdraft fees, then applied my paycheck after the charges. If they applied my paycheck first then there wouldn't have been any overdraft to begin with.
Complaints:
One- unethical stacking so that they charge me fees when if they applied my paycheck no fees would have been warranted
Second- I have opted out of overdraft, and I opted out ONE YEAR AGO and still they allow debits to go through.
Third- when brought up with customer service they would rather me file a Revdex.com report than being ethical to begin with
I am a single mom- besides these charges being very high I shouldn't have been charged them to begin with and Customer Service was no help because they do not have the authority to change anything, a manager does which is why I am filing a formal complaint. It's really sad that this can happen- it's not like I was out writing bad checks, this was done ON PURPOSE to get a bank fee so the bank makes money off of my free checking account.Desired Settlement: I want a refund and NO OVERDRAFT FEES CHARGED TO ME EVER!!!!! I opted out for a reason and that is because they have unethical practices with how they handle money in a person's account so they charge a fee instead of providing customer service. I would rather a transaction be DENIED and not pay a fee yet they keep trying to do it anyway.
If ANY of this is argued I have a PDF of my bank account showing how the account was stacked and where I requested in writing that they remove the fees because I didn't overdraft the account. I said that if they would not handle the matter I would take it to the Revdex.com and they preferred to handle it this way.
