Shawn C at Groove Ent. bid and was selected to perform as the DJ and MC at our wedding on September 1st, 2019 from 5-10 pm. We selected him because he claimed to be familiar with south asian music and have served in many south asian weddings. We gave him a list of music 4-5 days before the event and went through the planned event with him a few days prior. He gave us the impression from all conversations that he would be the one to perform. However, he did not show up on the day of the event. Instead he sent a subcontractor named DJ Theo who we were not told about or put in touch with beforehand. Theo did not play our selected music for the most part. In fact, for parts of the event, he didn't play anything at all. When he did play some music, it was completely inaudible, indicating that he was not familiar with the acoustics. He did not serve as the MC for the event either. I sent him a message through family and event coordinator multiple times to increase the volume, but the music was still inaudible from 5 pm till 8 pm. I sent my aunt to ask him to play our selected songs, he responded that we had only asked him for instrumentals, indicating that Shawn did not communicate the plans for the event to Theo. Afterwards, he started playing completely random songs. At that point, I sent my groom to get a hold of the DJ and he was not found at his location. Then, I sent the event coordinator to locate him. After looking for a while, she found and sent the DJ to us at 8 pm. When I asked him why he was not playing our selected songs, he said that some of our selected songs were unavailable, despite them being actually available on *** and despite earlier assurances from Shawn that they had all the songs. Theo then said that he would start researching our selected songs to download - in the middle of our event! When we brought these issues to Shawn's attention after the event, he refused to take any responsibility for what happened - we essentially had no music for 3/5 of of the event.
