On August 29, 2019, I entered into service agreement for Gregory's Optical to fix the broken nose piece on eye glasses. I paid $100 deposit on the $15.00 price of the work that I was told would take about two weeks. On Friday September 6, 2019, I was informed by email that a technician (***) had cracked the lens of my glasses. At the time they offered me a 50% discount on new lenses or refund the $100 I paid as a deposit. When I expressed my disbelief of their offer, I was contacted by *** who admitted (1) not informing me of the store policy breakage of glasses not purchased in the store, and (2) not checking the lens material before working on the glasses (and declined the Nikon Lens card for the lens). This correspondence continued until January 8, 2020 when Gregory's Optical returned my broken glasses and provided a cheque in reimbursement for the $100 deposit I made on August 29, 2019.

Replacement My glasses were very expensive. They are Silhouette glasses with a progressive lens that I purchased in Budapest in 2015 for the price of about $897 EUROS or about $1,200.00. While Greogory's Optical request that I provide all the orginal receipts for my glasses and the prescription information, I explained that I was in the process of relocating and my belongings were in a shipping container. They would have this info since they are an optical store and were in posession of my glasses.
We have been in contact with *** on this issue via email. On Friday, October 4th, 2019 we requested *** send us a copy of the original invoice from the purchase of these eyewear as well as the details of where she purchased the eyewear and the presciption details. She did not comply. We now have no way to verify the cost of her purchase of said eyewear. In order to refund the cost of the one lens that was damaged, we would need this information for accurate compensation. We have however refunded her, through cheque, for the nose bridge purchased from us. We also do have signage in our store of our policy that we are not responsible for outside frames and lenses.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I did respond on November 20, 2019, when I returned to Canada. I responded that I had prescription and purchased the glasses in Budapest for about $879 Euros or $1,200.I also clarified that I did not have the original receipts because my whole life was stored in a shipping container as I was in the process of relocating. I find it unusual that an optical store would not know the cost of my lens or the price of my Silhouette frames.
At no time was I informed of the store policy regarding breakage nor did I see any signs in the store. In an email sent on Wednesday September 11, 2019, *** admitted to making a number of mistakes including not verbalizing the store policy to me and not checking the material of the lens before working on the nose piece.
