Hired this company for a 14'x30' addition with basement. Completely frustrating, poorly scheduled, lacking quality. 1.)POOR SCHEDULING.Expressed at planning meetings that I wanted high quality work done in a timely manner. Was given estimate of 2 months start to finish. Promised that I would have a week notice to move out of my bedroom. Was given 16 hours. Promised no more than 2-3 weeks being displaced from my bedroom. It took 2 1/2 months.Contract signed and 1st payment made 6/15/12. We finished prep work mid July. Basement dug on 8/8/12. I was told early October for completion. Then, I was told Thanksgiving. He waited too late to order the windows, so had the drywall completed before the windows. Surprise! Nothing matched up. I still have gaps and cracks. I was also never supplied a set of blue prints to approve, so I was disappointed when the window configuration did not match his original drawings. They left a hole in the basement wall open to the elements and critters from August until Thanksgiving - when they finally placed the final cement block had been removed to pour concrete. On 12/14/12, I finally gave up letting him try to fix the mishaps and paid him off, pending replacement of a bathroom medicine cabinet door, vanity drawer, and hardware for a window which weren't supplied until ~1/29/13. His reply? "It's like a new car. You have to take it back 6 or 7 times to get it right." Not me.
2.)POOR QUALITY. BATH. I have a 1" rim of glue around inside door of my medicine cabinet. I insisted on replacement. He gave me one with the glue peeled off and the edges finished with putty - looked like kids clay. I went back to the one with the glue because the one with the putty had the holes predrilled at the wrong width. An extra hole was drilled in a drawer. He knew, but didn't bring it up until I noticed it. I did get a new drawer front. The "quality" bath vanity is poor. Not well aligned and shelf surfaces don't look like real wood. Drawer tracks are cheap. The painter left tons of splatter on my new tub and his cleaner didn't clean it. PLUMBING. I listened to the 1st set of plumbers as they tried to install the tub, "Is that how it goes?" "I don't know." "Well, it's gonna have to do cuz I don't know how else to get it in." Real confidence. He also smoked in my house. OUTSIDE. The siding fell off the day after it was installed. They returned the next week to repair, but nailed it in place instead of crimping the top row. Caused several 2" cracks around the nails. Old siding was reused as expect on one side, but they took no time to match up or trim faded vs nonfaded pieces. My house is now striped. TRIM. As I said, the windows went in after the drywall. About 6" needed patched below my windows and smaller spaces elsewhere. There is a 1/4" gap along the top above the trim. There are 1" cracks/holes below the windows in a couple spots. 1/4round was never finished in the foyer. Baseboard poorly cut at rounded corners leaving gaps. Lower baseboard used than previously in bath creating very rough looking walls. He attempted to fill gaps behind some baseboards, but now it looks like a poor patch job.
Yes, he offered to keep coming til it was fixed, but I was done with him. He ranted about how good his workers are at their job and they do the best quality in the area. When asked if he had come to inspect their work, he said "No." That's when I gave up and told him I'd pay him off to pack up and stay out. I called the county to make sure I had an occupancy permit, and I didn't. And, the inspector said I still have to build steps with a rail at the sliding door. Great Improvements never did that either.
We are very pleased with the remodeling of our bathroom. The owner, staff, and craftsmen showed great skill and professionalism.
We are now enjoying our new room addition that "Great Improvements", recently completed for
us. The quality of the workmanship has not only met our expectations, but exceeded them from
start to finish.
Mr. l Melott, the builder/ owner, employes some of NE Ohio's finest tradesman with customer
satisfaction, above everything else. The superb construction made our home not look even more
wonderful, but, as if it was built fifty-three years ago as new construction.
We would recommend "Great Improvements" to anyone wanting home construction,
remodeling,,etc with a fair and honest price. Superb people,.........
We recently decided it was time to renew our two outdated and failing bathrooms. We contacted Great Improvements and were pleasantly surprised to get a quick call-back and appointment to go over our needs. The salesman was very attentive to our wishes and wants. He did not try to oversell us on anything. His goal was to give us exactly what we wanted which was very refreshing. He was knowledgeable about the construction industry and helped us to come up with a plan to stay in our budget. I can’t say enough about the owner, Lee Mellot and his crew. They were all very professional craftsmen that made it all look easy. They always arrived on time and completed their work in a timely fashion. They always respected our home, keeping it as clean as possible and protected from all the usual dirt and dust you get with a gut job. Lee was very attentive to the entire process. He came almost every single day to supervise the crew and make sure the process kept moving as planned. He is also a fine craftsman and was hands-on during the entire remodel. The office staff was in constant contact with us about all the many details that come up in the process. The bathrooms turned out spectacular and at a reasonable cost. We are very happy with the entire process and look forward to working with Lee and his company again.

I called Great Improvements to help me with a bathroom remodel and the salesman, [redacted] called me. We didn't set up an appointment because he had another client near me and wanted to get us both on the same day and he said he would call me back. He has never called and it's been almost a month. I went with another company.
