Grass Roots Lawn & Landscape

In March 2020, I hired Steve, owner of Grass Roots Lawn and Care, LLC, to resod my entire backyard as the grass was dying in areas due to shade in certain areas.

During the 'quote' phase, Steve told me that ProVista grass, "a new St. Augustine hybrid grass" works "extremely well in shade as it is a 'shade and sun' tollerant new strain of grass recently developed." Steve further stated he has installed this "type of grass at many other customers" of his. Steve also said that based on the shaded area, he would add a "4th zone" for irrigation to cut down on the volume of water to the 'shaded area' and add/relocate several sprinklers to ensure adequate water coverage for the new sod.

Based on his word/expertise, my wife and I agreed to pay him approximately $3,500 to resod approximately 2,500 sq ft of lawn and add/relocate a fourth sprinkler zone/sprinklers.

After the job was completed, a 4th sprinkler zone was NOT added and 5 sprinklers were added to the 'shaded area' (was 2 prior). I didn't realize a 4th zone wasn't added right away because Steve kept talking about the 'quality of work' his crew did.

I should have known something wasn't right because before the job was completed, he asked me to pay him almost the remaining balance because he "needed to make payroll." Being a Financial Crimes Investigator whose wife is former IRS attorney, anytime anyone can't make 'payroll' is because the company has NO CASH in their bank account.
