Review: Early July 2013 I call Grandridge Eye Clinic to make a new patient appt.I had been having scheduling issue with my usual provider causing me to seek out a new DR. When asked for insurance info.I explain that I am not sure who my coverage is through,I tell them who I work for and that my usual copay is $15-$20 having used previous provider for 15 yrs the copay being the same that was my expectation.My appt was set for 8/30/13, upon arrival I ask if they had gotten my insurn. figured out and how much was my copay.I was told that the usual checkin person was at lunch and they were working on it.I get seen go to check out expecting to pay my copay and am told they were having problems verifing my insurn. and that they would just bill me that way I wouldn't have to wait for them.On 9/28/13 I get my bill and it's $231.25! I panic pull up my EOB and it shows my part $154.11, that part($40.00)was denied due to being considered experimental/investigational procedures,and insurn. only allowed $30.89 for the exam-I was charged $185 for the exam and more for other stuff. So total billed insurn $310,me $231.25.I called the office very upset bill was not what I expected/afford to pay that was why I kept asking what is my copay. I told them very specifically if I had known how much they were going to charge me I would not have used their office.I told them that I could not afford to pay their bill unless I was able to do payments they agreed. I revd. a letter from them stating apology and agreement to make payments.no amount specified or finance charges or time frame was included in letter,I make a $25.00 payment get next bill and see a $25 finance charge I call again because if that is the case I will never be able to pay bill off.I look into care credit find out I can use that acct to pay off Dr. call to do that and have problems because I don't have the card just the acct number for charging. Get new card, call to pay again am told must come into office. Whole experience negative, unprofessional billingDesired Settlement: Yes, they apologized, yes they agreed to payments, however they billed over and above what my insurance stated I was expected to pay. Insurance says my responsiblity is $154.11 fine I learned a very expensive lesson. They are still billing me $188.11 which is $34.00 MORE. I do not feel that I should have to pay for items that are considered experimental/investigational, as I was not informed of that up front.
