Our family rented a home on *** Street in ***, SC from this renter, Brian G. He has accused us of scratching the floors around the dining table and has accessed me an extra $200.00. The dining table is next to a wall and the chairs and bench with the table must be moved somewhat to sit down to eat. It is a DINING TABLE after all. Our use of this dining area is normal use. Nothing at all out of ordinary usage. We were very respectful of this house.
I realize rental homes are not normally highest standard homes because renters are in and out, but this home had peeling paint on the ceiling, the linen (bath cloths) had hair in the fibers, the yard was unkept, etc. I would not have pointed out all the bad features of the home until Brian G started falsely accusing us of scratching his floors. The accusation is false and ridiculous.
This guest stayed at our vacation rental property in ***. When a guest books a reservation with us, we send them a message outlining our house rules. One of those house rules is to not move furniture in the home. The home has beautifully restored, original, hardwood floors and moving furniture is simply not allowed. The home is set up to accommodate up to 6 guests and there should be absolutely no reason that any furniture needs to be moved. When this group checked out, our housekeeper found the floors under/beside the dining table and chairs scratched substantially. I have attached pictures of the damage. We have the table set away from the wall with enough room to walk on both sides to access the chairs and the bench. There is no reason that the table or chairs need to be moved. We submitted a request through the VRBO booking platform to the guest asking for $200 so that we can have this damage repaired. We also sent the guest the attached pictures showing the damage and they responded very angrily and accusatory, said that she reported us to VRBO for "false accusations" and asked us to stop harrassing them. Part of conversation attached, as well for your review. I have more screenshots of the conversation but it will only allow me to attach 4 files. We absolutely were not harrassing her. We sent a request for $200 and explained the damage. That is all.
I have attached screenshots of our entire conversation from when she initially made the reservation. The complaints that she brings forward about the cleanliness of the home, etc were never brought to our attention during or after her stay. Once we requested the $200 for damages is the first she brought anything up about any concerns. Regardless, she damaged our home and we would like to be compensated for those damages. We did nothing wrong here.
I got this letter from the VRBO customer support. I clearly do not owe any money. I did not scratch the floors any more than normal use.
