Golden Needle

My husband and I hired O’Toole’s Handyman Service to finish our garage to bring it up to code per the town of [redacted] ’ regulations [redacted] , the owner of the company, was very personable and friendly to begin with He made it very easy to want to hire him to complete the job He sent me an estimate for the job which I was very happy to see their estimated price for the job as it was lower compared to the estimates I had gotten from other contractors When [redacted] came by to measure the garage and collect data for an estimastated if we pay in cash the hourly cost for labor will be $less per hour I asked him if he needed details of what needed to be done to bring the garage up to code and he said no and that he knew what the town would want I did, however, give them the contact person and information at the town hall in case they had any questions days into the job his counterpart [redacted] (who basically runs the show once [redacted] gets the down payment for the job) told me the town wants another step done which [redacted] and [redacted] did not know needed to be done This was going to be approximately $more Then it came time to paying for the materials for the job The cost for the materials ended up being $more than what the estimated cost of the supplies were listed to be on the invoice [redacted] sent me When I called [redacted] to inquire why it was so much higher he basically blamed it on [redacted] and said his measurements may have been inaccurateWhen I received the final bill I told [redacted] that [redacted] had said if I pay cash labor would be $less per hour [redacted] said he was not under the impression this was an hourly job I asked him to speak with [redacted] about it [redacted] called me and basically had excuse after excuse why this was not going to be $less per hour (like he told me it would) He basically bullied me over the phone and tried to intimidate me He was so unprofessional and did not own up to what he originally told me From the moment I signed the estimate agreeing to let them start the job, [redacted] was no longer that friendly man that came to look at my garage the first time It was very obvious he was all about getting his money He even wanted me to drive to [redacted] to hand him a check the same day I signed the estimate Who does that?! The job was done, however, the final price was over $1,above the estimate they had given me I know an estimate is just an estimate…but this was nowhere close to the number they had given me! Very frustrating as a customer I will NEVER use or recommend them to anyone Please do not be fooled by this company Overlook the references he hands you and MOVE ON!!! All this guy cares about is money–A very angry and unhappy customer

He sent me an estimate for the job which I was very happy to see their estimated price for the job as it was lower compared to the estimates I had gotten from other contractors. When [redacted] came by to measure the garage and collect data for an estimate-he stated if we pay in cash the hourly cost for labor will be $5 less per hour. I asked him if he needed details of what needed to be done to bring the garage up to code and he said no and that he knew what the town would want. The job was done, however, the final price was over $1,000.00 above the estimate they had given me. I know an estimate is just an estimate…but this was nowhere close to the number they had given me! Very frustrating as a customer. I will NEVER use or recommend them to anyone. Please do not be fooled by this company. Overlook the references he hands you and MOVE ON!!! All this guy cares about is money.
