This is in regards to complaint # [redacted] The customer did in fact purchase a car here at Rent 2 Own HQ. The customer subsequently did contact us and said that her car had either a sensor or throttle issue with the car. The [redacted]...
at our store on IH 10 asked her to bring in the car so that we could have it sent to our mechanic that we use to out source some of our repairs. At that point the customer declined and said that she would run the vehicle until it died. Shortly after that the customer failed to make a payment and was recovered for that reason.?
I tried to purchase a car from this company on 2/13/16. My car had completely died and I NEEDED one bad. I called a friend of mine who works at the same company but a different location and he told me to call Chris aka POKER, who worked at the location near me and I could get a great deal and he would even pick me up and take me to the lot to see what I could get. I called Poker and told him I had $1,000 to put as a down payment and I could barely cover $350 a month (ps that is the price of a NEW car) but I am needing to find a 6 passenger vehicle. They said no problem they do have a van that will work and that they would send someone to get me, AWESOME! So far so good.
As soon as they drive up and I get in the car I see the rips in the seats and a broken windshield. I ask and this is NOT Chris, it is a salesman. I ask about that and he tell me they sell the cars as is. I ask if they have others, he says no but "the car should still pass inspection." I am no expert but broken windshields passing inspection sounded a little iffy but still hopeful. So I ask what is the TOTAL price of the van, he says he will tell me inside, so we go inside.
Inside he fills out a paper and ask me to sign it. He explains that all it says is that "IF we can come to an agreement on a price that I WILL buy the car right then and there." That is red flag #2. But I understand I have bad credit and I am at their mercy and I sign it. He then goes to the back and come back out with a smile on his face to tell me I have been approved and all I need to do is put down a $3,900 Deposit and my payments will be $450 a month for 3 years (total cost which they refused to disclose 20,100 Kelly Blue Book puts these at $3,383 HIGH END - WOW!). This was red flag #3 (bait & switch BIG TIME) so CLEARLY they are going to play hardball. I tell him I have $500 cash and I can't go over $350 a month. They say ok they can work with me, then he tell me "Would you be paying that cash or credit card," I say credit card. He then says "let me see the card" so I pull it out and he takes it to the back for some reason. Still haven't come to an agreement on a sale yet. I guess they just wanted to see if I had the money on my card.
So over and over we go back and forth for about an hour, to the point where they found me the CHEAPEST car on the lot, it is NOT a 6 passenger car but it fits my payment needs, closely ($700 deposit and $350 a month) so we are about to start working on that and they tell me ok and how much do you have for insurance. I told them that is ALL I have and ask how much is insurance. They won't give me a definite price and they tell me you will need about $200 to start and it will be about $160 a month so now my monthly payment will be $510 a month and my down payment will be $900.
At this point I tell him there is NO way I can cover that cost it is WAY outside of what I told you I can pay. He says OK, well then thank you. I look at him funny, HE BROUGHT ME THERE. I ask, so can I get a ride back? He says hold on let me go ask my boss (Chris aka POKER). He comes back and tells me that Chris said "It's our business to bring you here so you can buy something, PLUS you said you had a $1,000 to spend and you didn't so I can't give you a ride back.
WARNING: I have a prepaid credit card that WILL NOT accept charges unless there is money in the account. I use this for my protection. No one can charge my card UNLESS there is money on the card that way I don't get overdraft charges. This card comes with a SAVINGS account where I can STORE that money until I am ready to use it. SO if I go to make a purchase and I know I need money I get on my phone and transfer the money from one account to the other and I can make a purchase IMMEDIATELY. This keeps my money safe. HOW DID THEY KNOW I DIDN'T HAVE ANY MONEY in the SPENDING account unless they tried to run it? BEWARE - THEY WILL TRY TO RUN YOUR CREDIT CARD IF YOU GIVE IT TO THEM!!!!
In the middle of the mid day sun I walked home after being left at their dealership BECAUSE I wouldn't fall for their BAIT & SWITCH and HARD SELL tactics. I HIGHLY recommend that NO ONE ever does business with them. $3,900 was without a DOUBT the full complete price of the car. That was just the DEPOSIT. They would then charge you an extra $16,000 plus just for the pleasure of buying from them. IT IS NOT WORTH IT. Please do your research! Check out the blue book value BEFORE you buy. I bet you it will be what they are asking for as a deposit. It's better to just buy the car in full from a used car DEALERSHIP. This whole business model is a SCAM!
When I first with to this dealership I had seen good leadership , but then withing less than weeks I began to experience bad experiences meaning they were charging me more than they were suppose too. I was making my payments on time until an issue happened when they sold me the car they did make it clear to me that there would be no warranty on this vehicle. which I completely understand. they stated and made it very clear to me the car was in good conditions that there was nothing wrong with the car. Not only that but also tried blaming me for leaving a dent on the passenger side when that dent was already there when I bought the car. And the battery had died out because it was no longer good. after not even a few weeks having the car , it finally shut down on me and I was trying to gather the money to take the car to the mechanics to get the car fixed ASAP because I was pregnant , I am still pregnant up until now I am going to three months and all this was just causing more and more stress. I was very corroborative with the company and the employees there. I would call back when they told me to call back , I would literally travel to the other side of town when they asked me too just so that they could tell me the manager wasn't in. so when my car died out it had died out in front of a store best buy and I had to walk and take the bus. I left the car there because I was trying to find someone who could help me pick my car up and take the car to get checked out. But the time I knew they had towed my car. 2000 Honda Civic , Badge color. So I called rent to own the company to ask for information as to if they knew where the car was at. They stated they could help me take the vehicle out of the pound but that I had to pay 400 dollars to get my stuff and the car. that was rent to own people. so I personally went and spoke with manny (manual) he was , manager at the time and we had came to an agreement , he had asked me how much I had to offer him and I explained to him my situation of not getting paid very much. so he made me an offer of 200 dollars straight and he would let the car go with my stuff. so I didn't get paid till 4 more days later and when that day came I went back to rent tow own and they had came up with a different story. at this time manny was no longer working there this time it was a different manager Chris. he came up with a whole different story. so I had to talk to the ladies there and 5 different people regarding getting the car back or my property. So Chris said it was 200 to get my car back but I still had to finish paying the rest of money owned on the vehicle. so I told him I no longer wanted the car. Now I would say I had a very bad experience with this company. Chris was very rude. He stated He had already sold the car to another customer. So I went to the ladies at the front and spoke to them concerning my property and they stated my property was in the property room and they had no access to the property room because the people who had access to the property room had left for the rest of the day. So I told her that was fine I would be back the next to pick up my stuff. but that wasn't it they asked for $50.00 on the spot to get my stuff and the lady who took my payment was Diva Chovorriz. and I still have the receipt where she singed it stating it was for my property. So when I went the next day they stated my stuff was not in the car when they got my car after the fact that I had paid $50.00. So I was upset by this stage. so I didn't get my property or nothing and to me it seemed as if they were setting something up. So by this time I called the cops and made a report. So the cops couldn't do much so we left it at that and left. Now I did make it clear to them I was going to sue them and that's what I am working on now I am looking into more information concerning this case. I just feel betrayed. So now I still don't have my property now they had stated the impound people had my property and I called them and spoke to them directly and gave them all info they needed and they had reports stating they did NOT take any of my property of the car. the car was not in the impound for that long nor ready to go to option or where they sell cars. Now their information telephone number is 210 431 8200 they are located of 151 and hwy 90. company called Vehicle Management solutions. website is www.urtsa.com I really want this to be handled because I really would hate for another customer to experience this. and go through all this stress just for property that had no value pretty much. I do not understand where the extent of the damage came from. We had the vehicle picked up from Gunn, towed to a shop, repaired and reinspected (at no cost to the custmer). The customer then asked to
renegotiate the purchase price but asked for less than what we initially invested in the vehicle. I tried to explain that cash price and payment price are very different but she was not hearing me. Since it is a
lease I explained that she can terminate it at any time with no repercussions towards the balance of the contract.
