G&G charged extra fees claiming my last ACH payment was returned for insuffient funds. My bank verified it was never submitted for payment.
I was making payments to Glasser & Glasser for a debt owed to Capital One. The payments were paid by ACH each month through a phone arrangement. I realized the last payment was not deducted from my account on May 28, 2013. I thought maybe the holiday was the reason. I gave it a little over a week and contacted Glasser & Glasser on June 14, 2013. The clerk, [redacted] informed me that the payment was submitted and returned marked insuffienct funds on May 28th. Glasser & Glasser supposedly sent me a letter about this issue. I never received a letter from them. I questioned this because I was not notified by my bank about anything that was returned. Ms. [redacted] was not willing to budge and stated that they were going to charge me an extra $7.43 interest because of this. I complained and she stated she would have a supervisor contact me. The only I have received is a letter dated 06/17/13 stating the withdrawal was made from my checking account for $133.43 ($126.00 amount due and $7.43 interest for returned check for insuffient funds in my checking account. On June 14, 2013, after talking with Ms. [redacted] at Glasser & Glasser, I contacted my bank (Navy Federal Credit Union). The phone agent at the bank stated that Glasser & Glasser had not submitted any ACH withdrawal requests for the month of May, 2013. And, there were no returned check transactions either. She confirmed the only request was the one I had done 06/14/13 with Ms. [redacted]
I know that I owed the money. I authorized a payment arrangement to have the $126.00 deducted via ACH from my checking account on the 28th day of each month. It worked just fine until the month of May. Coincidently, my last payment. I don't feel I should have been lied to or penalized for their mistake. They overcharged me by $7.43.
I am filing this complaint because I wonder how many others have experienced this and did not say anything because they are a collection agency and they felt bad about owing the debt in the first place and were embarrassed. How much money has Glasser & Glasser made over the years from individuals by overcharging them based on a lie?
