Last night, I was washing sewer water off my bathroom walls. If that’s not disgusting enough, there’s currently sewer water under my kitchen sink, in my laundry room, and all over my basement. I had to scrub between my hardwood floor slats to clean the sewage that overflowed from the flood in my bathroom and into my dining room. This is the result of calling Glacier Point Services and their “plumber’s” work. I am writing this up, because I hope it never happens to anyone else.
Our sink was not draining, so we called a plumber. It’s sewer work, we expected it to get a little dirty and pricey; we didn’t expect to be left with a flooded house and our own materials covered in sewage.
The “plumber” showed up and flooded the basement in just a couple of minutes of showing up. I don’t know anything about plumbing, but my landlord does and was making suggestions that were completely ignored. The “plumber” proceeded to flat out say he didn’t learn to be a plumber, did not care to either. He was learning on the job. This leads me to wonder why he wouldn’t listen to suggestions.
He snaked the drain, but then decided to use a water jet instead, to try and push a huge clog. This is an old house; the clog is probably too big to be pushed (and it was). Knowing this would flood the house and that it was not the solution we wanted, he used the water jet anyways. The pipe contents took the path of least resistance and ended in my bathtub. That’s ok, but then he proceeded to pump that out with a shop vac. Without caring to look how filled the vacuum was getting. It overfilled and ended spraying all over the bathroom walls.
This was an entire day filled with “why did he just do that?” thoughts, it made no sense and he kept ignoring advice and suggestions. He did not bring any buckets or rags. As sewage was spraying everywhere, he reached for our stuff. Guess whose nice bath mat and towels are now covered in sewer gunk and impossible to wash? He only brought one tool in the house at a time, so he kept walking back to his truck to get more. That’s a great idea when you’re paid by the hour. He also walked around the house each time he ran back to his truck for a new tool. Instead of taking the shorter path through the garage (garage door open and was offered multiples times and progressively stronger with each suggestion) and avoiding bringing sewer water all over the house. He also did not have power tools, I guess it makes sense to take more time when you’re paid by the hour. Always blamed Glacier Point Service when we asked why.
Once the clog was found, my landlord held the receiving end of the pipe while he used OUR hose to shove down the pipe and flush it out into OUR bucket. He put the pipe back together and did not bother setting the toilet back properly or the kitchen sink. My landlord and my boyfriend had to reset and stabilize the toilet since had anyone sat down it would have toppled over. He also left our sewage filled buckets in the house on the carpet and his cigarette butts outside on the ground.
He made clear mistakes and never acknowledged it. He obviously needs training and help but does not care to ask or get properly trained. After all, your credit card number is already in the system before he even shows up and the clock starts ticking from when they leave their shop. He’ll be paid no matter what.
This is by far the worst customer service I have experienced. When calling the employer to explain how stressful and outrageous the 5 hour ordeal was, they hung up. 5 hours to clear a sewer system that has 4 inlets (plus toilet that drains directly into sewer main) seems absolutely absurd. While I am all for an employer who stands by their employees, I think it is unethical for them not to care to ensure this doesn’t happen again. They could learn the problems, so they could train their employees instead of sending people who very specifically tell the customers they are learning on the job. They could outfit their employees with proper tools and ensure the job is well done instead of having the plumber supply some of their own tools and the plumber “not getting around to buying it yet.”
If you ever need a plumber, save yourself the stress and frustration, call someone else.
This is the first time I have ever reviewed a business negatively. I know business will sometimes mess up, but there would have to be a really good reason for me to write a negative review of a business. We received services from Glacier Point on 12/22/2017. After we received our invoice, the travel time charged seemed quite extensive $875, billed at $125 per hour, travelling a total of 280 miles, which equals an average of 40 mph. I called to inquire about the expense, and spoke with Judy, the office manager, who was very rude and condescending. I figured she must have been having a bad day, so waited a day or so and called her back to discuss the issue again. I was looking for a straightforward answer on the travel expense and also to express my disappointment in her disrespectful attitude. Again, Judy was just as angry and condescending. I own a business myself and have never, ever treated someone in such a disrespectful manner. It appears Judy has little sense of how to deal with questions from the public. She angrily stated it was Christmas and the workers wanted to get home safely to their families so must have driven slowly. If the roads were bad, a proper polite response from Judy would have been I know the travel expense sounds high, but the roads were really bad and they had to drive slowly. That would have put an end to it, but because of such an angry and defensive response, it was suspicious. Do the workers not want to get home to their families at any other time of the year other than Christmas? Is the holidays the only time they drive slow? I requested to speak with the owner of the business, but received no phone call back. I called back every week for a month and never received a phone call back from the owner. Each time I spoke with Judy, I was very polite on the phone when leaving the message, however, she was obviously very angry with my phone calls. When I called for the fourth time and spoke with Judy, she advised the owners received every single message I had left and stated the owners were too busy to call me back. She requested I never call them again and hung up the phone on me. WHAT!! I spent $1,350 and the owners are too busy to make a simple phone call to speak with me. How outrageous! What kind of business is this? Again, I'm a business owner and would call anyone who wanted to speak with me about their experience with my business. It leads me to believe something is amiss, especially with the travel expense if the owners are not willing to speak with their customers who have questions or concerns. I would advise anyone wanting to do business with this company to choose another, because if there is ever a problem, God help you. What an terrible experience we had in dealing with this business.
