Rapid Direction, Inc reseller misled us regarding the capabilities of the 3D Systems Project 1500 3D printer.
Our claim is that the Rapid Direction Inc sales representative came to our facility to view physical parts and project for which we required the 3D printer. We sent 3D part files to RDI for review. The RDI sales representative misled us to purchase the wrong equipment. The parts produced are tacky and will not work in moving assemblies, they are not to size and will not fit together properly, and the automatic solid supports produced by the equipment during printing fall into critical areas of our part and cannot be removed to render the part usable.
A whole other issue is the printer was also delivered broken, still not working, but even if it was running perfect it could not produce desirable parts.
Below is detailed history:
12/20/2013 RDI sends email regarding 3D Systems printer
"My engineering team reviewed your part files and stated that you will have exceptional results with the Projet 1500 printer technology. The material is very robust and will withstand being used as moving parts."
12/23/13 we purchased the 3D printer
12/30/13 Shipped via FedEx
1/3/2014 Received
1/13/2014 RDI Tech arrived, and unpacked and installed
The RDI Tech ([redacted]) found problems during installation and the system was delivered not fully operational
1. Printer had "500" silkscreened on it rather than "Projet 1500" not sure we even got what we paid for. RDI tech attached a new label.
2. The agitator motor was not functioning.
3. The Door would lock, and the entire system would have to be re-booted.
Over the next two weeks we attempted to use the printer, could not produce any usable parts, and had malfunction, the screen had a 1/4" wide track of missing resin, so all the parts we attempted to print had massive voids. We kept being told that we needed for experience, and were given advice or ways to work around the system problems.
1/27/2014 A different RDI Tech ([redacted]) came to show us that it was not equipment problems, but our lack of operational knowledge.
1. RDI Tech could not repair the agitator originally delivered broken
2. RDI Tech could not get the equipment to work at all.
3. RDI Tech could not print a part
3. RDI Tech found more things broken, the main Control board and Hard drive need to be replace.
4. RDI Tech could not resolve software issues so that printer would EVER be able to print the parts we need.
So there are two problems:
1. Equipment was miss-represented, and we were misled to purchase the wrong printer.
2. Equipment does not function.
We have contacted both Rapid Direction Inc the reseller, and 3D Systems the manufacturer numerous times, and they are not willing to accept the equipment back and give us a refund.
