Red River sent the residential team out to replace my driveway and side walk. After 6 months the driveway has several cracks, one the entire width of the driveway. The team leader, Carlos Plata, came out after I’d been calling him for 10 days. He said it was normal and would do nothing about it. A week later, the owner of Red River Concrete, Casey S, came out and said it was normal stress cracks. A few days later he had another man come out who was with another concrete business, John Todd, and he said the same thing. I do not believe 4-inch concrete should crack within 6 months. Red River may be a good company, but I would not recommend the residential team to anyone. I think the work was sub-standard.
As much as we hate for anyone to be disappointed the customer does not understand the traits and nature of concrete. The cracks sited in this complaint are the natural process of curing. It is common that minimal hairline cracks can form due to the stress of curing. Where and when concrete will do this is unknown. In this case the driveway contains two minimal hairline stress cracks, but are controlled by using a method termed "control joints". Control joints are used in order to control a runaway hairline stress crack. While these are mildly visible they have nothing to do with the integrity of the concrete and are merely cosmetic. At no point does anyone know, if installed properly, that a hairline crack will appear, but we do know it is likely. An attempt was made to explain this to the customer but she seemed adamant that she was only open to replacement or half of her money back.
After much review we determined the driveway was installed properly. Pictures and documentation were used to back our findings. As the customer feels we are doing her a disservice as we cannot replace or give refunds on something that is common and likely, we would like to suggest to the customer to get a second opinion from someone she chooses and we would discuss a fix if the opinion she chose could guarantee no cracking using the normal methods or installing a driveway.
Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because:Everyone I have discussed this with agrees with me that concrete should not crack after only six months. I do not consider three cracks, one 18 feet, as insignificant. I do not think Red River Concrete is acting in good faith.
