Friendly AC installed a SEER 16 2.5 ton Rheem AC in late May 2018 for $3520 with interest free financing. When it was not possible to provide a gravity drain line one of the installers suggested a pump which was then included at no charge. The installation was done efficiently and cleanly. This year they returned twice to clean the drain and gave me a demonstration of how to clean it so I could maintain the drain myself going forward. Their service charge is $75 but the second visit was at no charge. I called them late Saturday and they were here Sunday before noon to fix it, accommodating their service call to my schedule which I greatly appreciated. I also appreciated that the serviceman wore a mask during this time of covid-19.
Friendly Roofing & AC failed to pull permits and complete the job. I had to hire another contractor to fix & finish their work to pass inspection.
I have a detailed description with dates and supporting documents in word and pdf files but it is much longer than this section will allow.
I will attach it to the complaint if the system allows attachments.
Otherwise please email me at ***@hotmail.com and I can send you the detailed description.
The total contract we had with Friendly Roofing and AC, Inc. was $4,500 for the initial system and $8,490 for the addition system. We have paid them $4,500 for the initial system and $7,690 so far for the addition system. Thus, $800 is still unpaid since Friendly Roofing and AC, Inc.'s work did not pass final inspection. I had to pay another AC contractor to correct Friendly Roofing & AC's work on both units ($7,519). I would like Friendly Roofing & AC to arrange payment to reimburse me for these costs, less the final $800 on the contract ($6,719), at which time I will arrange to transfer the incorrect unit they installed back to them.
Customer has pulled all permits as owner builder and has hired us as a subcontractor to perform the work on his house(we were not required to pull our own permits in this case, as he already got permits).
Before starting the job of the new addition, customer was emailed the contract and has agreed to all its terms, witch indicate the exact type of A/C That will be installed on this job. He had also asked us to start the job ASAP and he will talk to his ARCHITECT to change the unit on the plans to reflect what is on our contract (its very common to change equipment scheduele based on customers request and budget). with this been agreed between us, we started the job and passed Rough inspection. at this point the customer still did not change the plans to match the unit we agreed on and inspector will not allow us to continue till plans were corrected.
after A WEEK OR TWO, CUSTOMER REACHES out to us and says that architect refuses to change equipment schedule on the plans and he then proposes to pay us the difference between unit we installed (that is also on our contract) and unit requested to be installed.we agreed to that and responded to him that it will be $2,300 difference + $400 (my cost) for labor to take apart therheem unit and install the desired carrier. another 10 days went by and finaly we get the answer for him that he refuses to pay that (even though he has sugeested to pay the difference between the 2 units ). So, instead, he hires another company that charges him over $7,000 for the same thing I proposed to do for $2700. Then he reaches out to us demanding this money back. I am attaching my offer to him for the Revdex.com TO review
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We do NOT accept the Business's response. It contains several false statements and leaves out critical facts.
1-It does not address the Business not pulling a permit for the initial unit we had them install in December 2016, before we even began the addition. At that point, we were not an owner-builder. That designation only applied starting with the addition, in January 2017. As noted in our longer description of the complaint, prior to installing the initial unit, we told him to meet the county's requirements, which we now found out he did not do.
2-Even though the proposal did show the exact type of AC unit that was to be installed, we had provided the Business with the plans and heat calculations, and asked the Business to confirm that the unit size the Business was quoting was correct. This was all done in advance of the proposal being prepared, so the Business had all the pertinent information. We relied on the Business as a licensed AC contractor to specify, quote and install the proper unit.
3-We did not unduly rush the Business to start the job ASAP and neglect any requirements that the county may have had. The Business never asked us to ask the architect to change the plans, until it failed the final inspection. Look at the timeline on my description and emails.
4-It is not common to install equipment that does not match the plans. This is actually not allowed by the building department. As a licensed AC Contractor he is required to install what is on an approved permit. Again, he never asked us to have the plans changed before he installed the incorrect unit.
5-We never agreed to change the specifications. The Business decided on its own and then could not pass *** with the unit it installed. See email where I ask the Business to make sure what they are quoting is the correct system.
6-The statement "at this point the customer still did not change the plans to match the unit we agreed on and inspector will not allow us to continue till plans were corrected" is not true. After the rough inspection passed, the Business installed the incorrect system with no discussion about changing the plans before installation. The work failed final inspection and only then did the Business ask me to change the plans. However, the plans could not be changed because the system it installed was too small for the space. The Business should not have installed a system before it had plans that showed that system as approved by the county. The inspector did not stop the job after the rough inspection passed. Only after the Business installed the wrong unit and final inspection failed, was the job no longer able to be continued.
7- The architect could not change the plans because he cannot specify a system that is too small. The architect did proper plans and heat calculations to determine the unit required for the space. The Business was provided the plans and heat calculations prior to the quote. A licensed AC contractor should know that the plans cannot be changed to install an improper size unit.
8- I agreed to pay the documented cost difference for a new unit in good faith to get it done amicably. The Business never documented the cost difference and insisted on full payment before inspection (see both his and my documentation). I objected to the prepayment term and the Business did not change the offer and stopped communicating with me.
9- I only hired another contractor because the Business did not offer a reasonable solution, stopped communicating and abandoned the job. See my email documentation for support of this.
10- I had to pay $7,000 for a full new unit (not just the cost difference) AND to correct the flaws in both the first unpermitted unit and the second incorrect unit the Business installed. I would never have chosen to pay an additional $7,000, but the Business did not take responsibility for their error, stopped communicating and abandoned the job. Therefore, I had to proceed with my project with a new AC contractor.
11- I chose Friendly Roofing and AC based on their quote to complete the job to the plans I provided in advance and based on not having any complaints with the Revdex.com. If the quote was $2,300 more or if there were complaints against the Business, I might have gone with another contractor.
12-Regarding the time frames mentioned in the Business's response, they are generally incorrect. The correct timing is shown and documented in the attachments we have previously provided to the Revdex.com.
13- I want to point out:
A-I sent the Business the full plans and heat calculations in advance of the quote.
B-Look at the dates on quotes, emails and inspections. I did not rush the Business to start or complete the job.
C-The quote includes passing *** inspection. The Business quoted and was hired to complete the job, which they did not do.
D-The Business is the certified AC contractor. They should know how to quote jobs, pull permits and follow plans.
E- The Business installed the first unit before the addition job. They did not pull a permit and installed the system improperly and without the required permit to install it.
F-The new contractor had to completely replace the second system AND fix several code deficiencies on both installations.
we are going in circles with this complaint. The responses are repeating them selves back and forth.
Complaint said everything he had to say and so did we.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We believe we have had the chance to address all of our issues thoroughly at this point. We are happy to provide any additional information or clarification that the Revdex.com may need.
