Review: On 07/18/2013 I went to this doctors office to be fitted with orthotic's and when I was checking out the lady behind the counter said I had pay a deposit of 1/2 of total in advance so I paid them $220.00. Then when I went to pick them up on 09/05/2013 they wanted me to pay the remaining $220.00 for a total of $440.00. When I questioned why I needed to pay the additional amount she said I would have to pay and wait for a refund. When I got home I checked with my Insurance company and no claim had been filled so I called the billing office of Foot & Ankle Center and they said they thought I was paying for them out of pocket. I have no idea why they would think that when my insurance pays 90%. I told them that was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard. So, when they billed the insurance, they bill for $840.00, $420.00 for the right and $420.00 for the left. It appears to me that they doubled the bill when they sent it to my insurance company. This claim was processed by my insurance company on 9/12/2013. I called the Foot & Ankle Center today (10/1/2013) to check on the status of my refund that is due from them. I was told that they would send it to their billing office to process and it would take 2-4 weeks. I am very upset with them over this entire transaction, they have not handled any of this in a timely manner.Desired Settlement: I would like my refund right away and I would like them to refund 1/2 the money to my insurance company

Foot & Ankle Center often fabricates custom molded orthotics to patients. Before the molds are sent to be manufactured payment must je made. Foot and Ankle Center provides the patient with the option to self-pay so the orthotics can be manufactured immediately rather than waiting for the insurance to process and pay the claim. If the patient agrees, we collect one half, $215.00, up front and the other half, $215.00, once the orthotics are picked up by the patient

This discounted price of $430.00 is offered specifically to those agreeing to self-pay as a courtesy and the price billed to the insurance is different. If the patient has insurance, these orthotics will be billed insurance. Once the claim has been paid then the patient is issued a refund.

The details of the process are always explained in advance as we strive to provide excellent care to every patient.

This patient was issued a refund in the amount of $174.80 on 11/4/2013. See attachments; copy of $174.80 check and patient ledger and the patient's account has a zero balance.
