First Choice Medical Group of Brevard

In June 2019 I had knee surgery by a surgeon previously associated with First Choice Medical Group. The outpatient surgery was done at ***.

In October 2019 I called First Choice Medical Center to get the final itemized bills for First Choice Medical Group and ***. After speaking with Amy W, Billing Special for ***, she noticed I had been overcharged $628.18 for a co-pay. Amy said she would start the process to get this refund but it would take 4-6 weeks. This was surprising since I had not been notified by First Choice I had been overcharged on the day of my surgery.

Having not heard from First Choice by mid-November I reached out to Amy W again. She replied a refund was approved and a check was promised late November 2019. No check was received.

There have been several promises to pay in November, December and in January. The latest response from Amy W was a "refund was finally made to your credit card in the amount of $628.18". This refund has not been received either. I notified Amy this refund had not been received several times over the last two weeks. Still no refund has been received by check or electronically.

First Choice Medical Group / *** agree they owe a refund of $628.18 but have yet to make good on this.

Had I not called to get an itemized bill four months after my surgery I would not have known about the over payment. Clearly First Choice Medical Group had no intention of refunding my money without being brought to their attention. I have to wonder how many of their other customers have been overcharged co-pays and also not notified after insurance pays their portion of the final bill.
