Fig Tree Catering

Catering company would not refund deposits after notifying them we would like to cancel our event with them. Client did not sign any contract.We chose Fig Tree to cater our wedding. After an unsatisfactory pre-wedding planning experience due to a lack of consistent communication and guidance from the company, we decided to cancel our arrangement with Fig Tree in order to go with a catering company that would better meet our expectations. They also unexpectedly added a $100 delivery charge that was not part of the original catering costs presented to us due to a long driving distance. Furthermore, myself, my fiancé, nor her father ever signed a contract nor were presented written documents detailing refund policies, etc. Upon our request to terminate the event three weeks out with Fig Tree the owner[redacted] refused to give us our $965 deposit back. She claimed it was her policy not to refund within 6 months of an event unless they can replace our event with someone else. We did not even book 6 months in advance! This is a completely disingenuous approach to present this policy verbally upon cancellation and with NO WRITTEN CONTRACT any party ever signed or prior communication of their refund policy, only invoices showing monies paid. My fiancé kept a detailed email discourse with Fig Tree as well and during no time did they mention this refund policy. We hope to resolve this through Revdex.com mediation, however we are prepared to go to Small Claims Court to get our deposits back.
