I went to Festival Foods in Onalaska, WI (1260 Crossing Meadows Drive) on Wed. 6/15/16. I walked in front of the customer service area and there was one male attendant behind the counter who observed me passing in front of him. I went to the Post Office Service area and arrived there at 5:44 pm. The attendant did not acknowledge my presence at the counter nor did he look in my direction. I waited 2 minutes before a customer arrived at the "express line" whom he started to service. The customer pointed my way and only then did the male attendant (Zack) attempt to provide service. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he referred me to Jackie. I explained the actions of Zack and she started to make excuses for him (new hire). I asked to speak to her supervisor and was referred to Dan [redacted]. Dan listened to the information. He referred me to Bob [redacted] and gave me his business card. Nothing was accomplished and I exited the store feeling that this business is NOT operating for the benefit of the customer. This store operates as if it were a "bureauocracy" or a non-profit agency.
Entered the Bakery at Festival Foods and decided I'd like a bagel. There were no plain bagels left in the display cabinets so I went to the counter and asked if they had any more. The employee then said, "Oh, I can get some more out of the FREEZER if you'd like". My response was, "Excuse me? The freezer?". Her response was, "Yes, all our bagels come into the store frozen". After politely telling the employee, "No thanks" and walking away I was just in shock.
This is a clearly labeled BAKERY. It is without any doubt in my mind IMPLIED that all products being sold out of this area are FRESHLY baked daily unless otherwise labeled or located in the fridge/freezer section. I find it completely unacceptable they are selling products that were previously frozen and shipped to their location from who knows where without a single sign anywhere stating that fact. Simply being in the bakery section implies freshness, knowingly not delivering on that is just as dishonest as any other business practice such as bait-and-switch. Not only are the bagels in the bakery section they are part of the primary display wall also filled with donuts and other goodies.
While I find some of their other practices such as the deli pre-slicing nearly everything they sell then giving you attitude when you ask for fresh product to also be unacceptable, atleast you can see the product there and they aren't trying to hide what they are doing to ruin their own business. The bakery situation though is as dishonest as it gets.
A sign needs to be placed on any and all product placed in the bakery section specifically stating if it was previously frozen and shipped to the store. If that sign existed I would have simply walked on by and not had to talk to an employee who was visibly embarrassed to tell me the truth.
