I paid Family Auto Care & Transmission to repair the transmission in my son's pickup truck. They kept the truck for several months, claiming they had to rebuild the transmission twice. When we finally got the truck back, the backup/reverse light did not work. We took the truck back to Family Auto and they said the switch needed to be replaced and was not part of the warranty. My husband replaced the switch. Several weeks later, the transmission seized in the truck and I had it towed back to Family Auto because it was supposed to be under a one year warranty. They have had the truck two weeks, and now claim that when my husband replaced the back up switch it voided the warranty. The put the transmission into the bed of the truck and declined to honor the warranty on the transmission.
We first saw this truck when it came in on Oct 24. We ordered in a transmission as the current transmission was to badly damaged to rebuild and installed it on Nov 2nd 2017, We were planning on them picking it up that night or the next day. After Installing it and during the test drive we noticed that it was having trouble going into one of the gears so we called *** to let her know that it wouldn't be ready. She said well that is good as we don't have the money my sons pay is all messed up and there trying to get it straightened out. We said ok, let us know when you have the money. We finally called her after a few weeks as we had not heard from her and she would give us date when she could pay and then the date would come and go and no pay. Finally on 12/13/2017 (after she said she would pay on the 8th.) we called and she paid 400.00 of the 2400.00. So the reason the truck was here for so long is that she didn't have the money to pay for it. They finally picked it up on the 15th of January after paying 1300 on the 11th of January and the remainder when they picked it up on Jan 15th. We saw the truck again on May 4th, 2018 when *** stopped by complaining that the backup lights weren't working. He said they had not been using the truck and that it had been parked. He tried a new backup switch and it didn't work. Our tech unplugged it and plugged it back in and it started working. He called a couple weeks later and said it was only working when you let out the clutch. we made an appointment for him to bring it in. So he brought it back on the 18th of may 2018 and we determined that he needed another backup switch. to which he replied that he would get one as he had a warranty with Auto zone. So we gave him back his truck. Note they had put 10,395 (171331 when it came in in Oct. 18 2017, when we saw it on the 18th the miles were 181726. miles on it as *** told me he was driving it back and forth to Denver. So it wasn't just sitting as he claimed the first time he brought it in. We next heard from *** on the 30th as she said that the truck was stuck in gear and on side of road. I told her she needed to get it towed to us. We saw it on the 31st of may but didn't get to look at it until the 8th of June as we were behind due to short week (Memorial Day) and techs on vacation. On the 7th of June we got to look at it. Right away we noticed electrical tape hanging on the wire and plug that should go to the reverse light switch, but the top half of the switch (part that plug plugs into) was missing and just the bottom half was present screwed into transmission case which allowed 90 percent of the fluid to leak out of the transmission which caused it to over heat and burn up. No fault of ours. They put the reverse switch in and over-tightened it and it broke, they then tried to use electrical tape to tape it into place. That failed and 274 miles later it had a catastrophic failure leaving her stranded on road.
Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because: the dates, facts, and claims in this response are not accurate and some claims are completely false. The two people I have spoken with, Clayton and Mardi, have both lied to me, yelled and cussed, and provided deplorable customer service. The business did not call, as they claim, and my phone records show that. The agreement was to pay when the work was completed but when I called, they had yet another excuse for why someone was out sick, or they were waiting on parts, etc. The only time this truck was not being driven was when it's been in this shop. To make up excuses is just poor form. The truck was returned when the backup light didn't work and we were told "that's not covered under warranty." The switch was not broken off by us as claimed. The electrical tape was around the connectors on the plug to reduce corrosion and had nothing to do with fluids leaking. The transmission was warrantied for a year, and lasted less than a quarter, and instead of honoring their word, they are, yet again, making excuses and false claims.
Regards,
