After owning the car for about 2-3 months, I realized it was burning oil. They wanted me to pay $1000 up front for "diagnostic" procedures. There was evidence of the piston rings being worn. There was oil residue in the tail pipe, blow-by when the oil cap was removed, and no sign of oil leakage. When I contacted the company, they said the warranty should cover it. After talking to them, they told me that I needed to pay for the diagnostic tests. The diagnostic tests included removing the engine, tearing it down and inspecting the rings. This would cost me over $1000 up front. If they decided it wasn't the rings, then I would also be responsible for paying to rebuild the engine and have it reinstalled, resulting in a $3000 estimate. I couldn't take the chance of them disagreeing about the rings so now I have a non-functional car that I'm still paying for.Desired SettlementI would like my car to be either repaired or replaced.Business Response Falcor Auto Sales Response to:Case# XXXXXX : Mr. [redacted] purchased a 2007 Mazda 6 on 01/14/2014. Along with the vehicle purchase, he selected a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty through Cars Protection Plus, which covers a variety of mechanical components. Approximately 2 1/2 months after his purchase he contacted us with the complaint that the oil level had gone down and he was concerned. We advised [redacted] to add the appropriate amount of oil and monitor the level. He then followed up with a phone call approximately 1 week later, to let us know that the oil level was down again. We then arranged for him to bring it to the repair facility that we usually send our vehicles, to have them evaluate the problem. The repair facility found no leaks or evidence of oil burning, noted the mileage, and topped off the oil level; again asking [redacted] to keep watch over the level. [redacted] then contacted us again approximately 1 or 2 weeks later with the same issue about the oil level. Our repair facility then contacted Cars Protection Plus for information on the warranty coverage details. The warranty company's response was that only way they would honor a claim such as this, was to perform a detailed and expensive diagnostic analysis. The analysis would take 6 to 10 hours of labor to get access to the components that need to be inspected. This information was explained to [redacted] at this time. We had mentioned to him that it may be covered through his warranty, but there was no guarantee. That was the last time we heard from him about this situation.Falcor Auto Sales,[redacted]Please note that the late response was due to the fact that it was sent to [redacted] in error.
