Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers

To whom it may concern,

On October 4, 2017, Mr. came to Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers for an oil change in
his 2005 Dodge Dakota with some 181,000 miles on it. The service was performed without incident
while being video and sound recorded. The oil was replenished and both oil drain plug and oil filter
were verified tight. The full oil level on the dip stick was verified to the customer.

On the 6th, after he left a message stating we owed him $10,000.00, I then received a call saying he had driven approximately 300 miles and while driving down the highway on the 5th' Mr. heard a knocking sound and said that he immediately pulled over and shut off the engine. He then stated that he saw no oil showing on the dip stick and then called AAA which came and towed him home.
My assistant manager, an ASE mechanic, and I drove to Mr. house to inspect the vehicle.
Upon arrival Mr. stated that the tow truck driver told him that the oil filter had leaked oil. If so, the filter had been wiped clean and was tight. The drain plug was also tight and dry. There was no evidence what so ever of oil blow back under the car. We took photographs of a clean oil filter and undercarriage. Mr. could not provide a tow ticket or a statement from the driver. He did produce a receipt for some oil that he had purchased. We did find oil showing on the dip stick.
Our next step was to start the engine which did indeed have a knock and was deemed unreliable to
drive by my asst. manager.

The conversation which ensued was that if after further investigation, we were found responsible,
then we would accept responsibility. The matter was forwarded to our insurance department and the
last I have heard, is that it is still under scrutiny by Nationwide.
In summary, procedure was followed and recorded. In the event of oil leakage, there should have
been evidence of blow back on the under carriage after driving so many miles. There was no tow ticket provided or statement from the driver of what he observed. The question arises; did the vehicle continue to be driven causing irreversible damage? Even so, it was related to Nationwide for their review and determination. Additionally, Mr. has sent a complaining review to Corporate and demanded payment through legal counsel even before any determination was made.
On Oct. 24"' he called and stated to me that Nationwide had denied to pay due to lack of any proof of negligence. Please reference Nationwide claim #***.
