Technician purposely plugged AC line during oil change and cause damage. Owner refuses to reimburse me for damage.
A few days following an oil change at Express Oil I started to hear a funny noise with my AC and water was dripping from under the dash on the passenger side onto the carpet. The water flow continued to increase and ultimately flooded that area of the carpet.
Concerned that my AC was broken, I took it to the dealer. The service manager told me the mechanic discovered a bolt had been screwed into the end of the AC drain tube causing the flooding in my car.
The cost to evaluate/test the AC and clean up the interior at the dealer was $324.71. I took the receipt and the picture of the drain tube to Express Oil and spoke with the Assistant Manager. I explained the story and provided the evidence. His response was, "I am very sorry. I tell the guys not to do that." The technician had used a bolt to plug the drain plug so he didn't get dripped on while under the car and left the bolt in the tube.
The assistant manager went inside to make a phone call to the owner of Express Oil. He returned and told me they were not responsible because I had taken the car somewhere else to be fixed and not to them, and his owner was standing by that policy.
If the engine light had come on, the oil pressure fell, an oil leak began or anything that remotely resembled a problem with an oil change I would have quickly returned to Express Oil for a solution. There is absolutely NO connection between an AC drain leak inside the car and the oil change that was done four days prior. Further I did not authorize Express Oil to do any AC work and therefore they should not have touched any AC components.
I have made several attempts to call the owner but have not received a call back.
I am requesting that Express Oil reimburse me for the repair made at the dealer for $324.17 (Receipt attached). I did not authorize any AC work to be done on my car, therefore no AC components should have been touched during an oil change. There is no way anyone could have connected an AC leak inside the car to an oil change conducted 4 days previously.
On *** wrote a malicious and inaccurate post regarding Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers, 710 S. Alafaya Trail. Here is our reply:
Elaine Parker had her oil changed at our shop. A few days later her AC condensation drain line became plugged and dripped water on her carpets. This is not uncommon. She took her car to a dealer instead of coming back to us. If she would have come back to us we would have cleaned that drain line for free like we do for many of our customers as a good will gesture. The dealer placed a plug in the drain line underneath her car, took a picture, and claimed we did it. This is an example of a crooked dealer. Service writers at all dealers work on commission so the more they charge you the more they make. They charged her over $300 for what we would have done for free. It is only a 15 minute job to clear the line. Charging $300 is a fraud.
She returned to our shop for reimbursement. Her oil change invoice states that we warranty all work for 90 days IF you return the vehicle to OUR shop. Instead she went to a crooked dealer. We denied the reimbursement. Now she lied stating that our assistant manager said "I tell them not to do that". Our assistant manager did not say that. There is no advantage for anyone at our shop to do such a thing because we would have cleared the drain line for free.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The owner's response to my complaint is completely inaccurate. I took my car to a *** dealer three days after my oil change at Express Oil because I was having an AC problem causing water to leak inside my car and drench my carpet. Why would I have brought my car back to a 10-minute oil change place for an AC problem asking for a warranty? I did not authorize Express Oil to do AC work on my car so the technician should not have touched any AC components. The dealer has no incentive to blame another shop for the plugged line. They were getting paid by me to fix my AC. The dealer found the bolt and took a picture. The bolt that was used to plug the line is an oil pan bolt and not a *** bolt.
When I returned to Express Oil to show them the picture of the bolt found in my line, the assistant manager said, "I'm sorry. I tell the guys not to do that." He admitted the technicians put bolts in the AC line so the drain tube doesn't drip water on them while they are under the car. The owner was not present for this conversation.
I have left two voicemails with the co-owner, who hangs a picture in the shop's lobby of himself with his phone number. No one has returned my call as of 12/20/19 to discuss any resolution. I am extremely disappointed and shocked that anyone would do business this way. I am attaching a picture of the bolt that was found in the drain line, my receipt from Express Oil and my receipt from the dealer. Again, I am requesting reimbursement of the $324 for the technician's error of leaving a bolt in my AC line.

We have a full service auto repair department and could have investigated her AC problem. She drove within a few feet of our repair department when she completed her oil change. We invite the customer back for a tour of our repair department.
When I returned to Express Oil to show them the picture of the bolt found in my line, the assistant manager said, "I'm sorry. I tell the guys not to do that."
This is not an admission of guilt. We tell our techs not to do a lot of things. Putting a bolt inthe AC drain line is not a normal procedure at our shop.
The photo is not proof that we put that bolt in the drain line. Someone else put it there.
We continue to maintain our position of no refund.
