Review: I purchased a granite counter top from Expo Building Material, Inc. (registered on Revdex.com as Export Building Supply) for my barbecue. We found the granite counter top to be bent and as a result, the BBQ sizzler/burner could not be installed properly. The granite we received was defected with multiple cracks in the interior, making it so that it couldn't support its own weight and giving it an uneven surface. I talked with a sales lady in the store regarding the quality problem and they insisted that I did the inspection and accepted the product. The store claims the problem was shipping and installation related and they refuse to do anything to compensate my lost. I greatly object to their inactivity because:
1) I am not a contracting expert and thus can only inspect the material superficially based on the outward appearance. The store needs to be held responsible for the quality problem that caused the function failure of the granite, especially since the faults were within the granite's interior and unable to be detected at first glance.
2) The company required me to pay the money in full before I even saw the stone. I was also informed that I couldn’t exchange or cancel the order when I purchased. Nobody in the store told me I had the right to reject the stone and how to go about disputing the order.
3) The store continues to maintain that there were problems with delivery and installation. However, the contractors for the delivery and installation, who were referred and arranged by an employee of the store, told me that there were no problems during their process. These conflicting accounts make me think that the store is trying to deflect responsibility onto the contractors, although the granite was inherently flawed from the beginning.
4) I still have a piece of granite (2’x3’) left from original slab (8’x3’), Experts can clearly see the quality issues of the stone, including several large cracks on the interior only visible after cutting into it.Desired Settlement: The product we received has an extremely serious quality issue, forcing us to tear down the granite and install a completely new slab. In conclusion, I wish to be refunded for the cost of the granite, plus the labor cost of installation and hauling -- for a total compensation of $1100
