Review: In December of 2007 my husband and I decided to upgrade our home with a new heating and airconditioning system. We went to [redacted] that recomended Engel Air Conditioning and Heating to install the system in our home. The agreement was for $11,800 that Engel Air Conditioning and Heating install the heating/air conditioning unit outside of our home and put the ducts in the proper places and place the thermostat on the first floor our home. After a few days of work everything was completed. We started heating our home with very little results and even tried to turn up the thermostat to 80 degrees to make our home warm enough. The first issue is that the thermostat was placed on the 2nd floor of our home not the first as it was agreed. It does not make sense to place the thermostat on the 2nd floor since hot air rises and the upstairs is very warm very quickly but the downstairs is very cold and can never heat up and be comfortable and the same goes for the summer time. The problem with the thermostat being upstairs is that the temperature desired is only for upstairs therefore the downstairs is too cold, but the system keeps running since the termostat never reaches the desired temperatue. The energy bills were very excessive for a few years until we decided to clean the ducts and realized that in one room and one bathroom the ducts were placed like the holes but the vents were never connected to the unit outisde. We notified [redacted] the CFO/manager of Engel Air Conditioning and Heating and he denied everything but later on admited to the wrong doings and ended up fixing the issue with the ducts on November 27th 2012. He never fixed the thermostat. For 5 years now we have heated our home and air conditioned it with 3 ducts not even working. I complained to [redacted] representative [redacted] about paying approximately 30% more in energy bills because of this issue. He asked me to fax him all the energy bills and told me he would fix the issue and we never heard from him after multiple phone calls.Desired Settlement: To resolve this issue we would like the thermostat placed on the first floor where majority of the homes have their thermostats and we would like 5 years difference of 30 percent for the energy bills that were paid extra. Basically if we paid 100 dollars we would like 30 back because we excesivelly paid for energy bills for our home which wasnt properly heated or air conditioned. We have all the electric bills for the last 7 years and the difference since the ducts were fixed last year and before that is approximately 30%.

Response:
To whom it may concern:This letter is in response to complaint number
#[redacted]Customer **. and [redacted]. [redacted]The customer states the issue for the complaint
is the thermostat not being on the first floor and the houses ability to not
stay comfortable.-Thermostat: It is a industry standard to install
thermostats on the second floor as well as on the first floor. We installed the
thermostat on the second floor for better cooling as the thermostat reads the
heat from the house because the heat rises. The system is not a zoned system
for duel thermostats.-Ductwork: [redacted] never admitted any wrong
doing as stated in the complaint, rather discussed the placement of the supply
registers and the layout of the job. After some time we discovered a way of
getting better duct work to the two rooms on the first floor that was not done
on the initial installation. So we did revamp this ductwork at no extra charge
to the customer. The customer is asking for a resolution of
installing a thermostat on the first floor which I would be happy to provide
and install at no extra charge to the customer. As far as asking for 30% of her
energy cost for 5 years is just not accepted for the following reasons; first
the old existing heating system that was installed was an old oil fired
hydronic system and how can the customer compare the cost between heating with
oil vs. the new Heat Pump system. The change over from oil to electric was
prior to the deregulation of electric cost. Our settlement offer would be as follows; we will
provide and install a new thermostat on the first floor at no extra charge and
either a $500.00 check or three years parts and labor.
