Econo Paint Daytona Beach
Have a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder that had a lot of small door dings as well as a badly scratched front hood. The car has over 130,000 miles on it so I didn't want to spend a fortune having it "fixed." A local body shop quoted over $1700 to repaint the hood alone. Stopped into Econo in Daytona Beach and looked at some of the work they'd done on cars still on their lot so I took a chance. Have to be honest and say that my expectations were not high and my stomach was tight about the decision.

Dropped the car off on Monday and got a call back on Wednesday that it was done and ready for pick up. When I first saw the car I was pretty much amazed. It looks absolutely brand new (with the exception of the rubber trim and faded headlights!). My wife and I went over the car front to back, in the bright sun, and couldn't find a single flaw --- no overspray anywhere, no drips, no orange peel, nothing. Just bright, shiny paint that actually has a bit of sparkle to it. The car looks brand new.

FAR FAR FAR exceeded any expectations that I had going in!

NASTY, NEGATIVE ATTITUDE OF FRONT-DESK INDIVIDUAL AT ECONO AUTO PAINT, KISSIMMEE, FL
Today, 9/18, about noon I called Kissimmee location to find out how many days it would take to paint a car. The individual that answered had a nasty attitude when I asked the question. He said first of all you have to come in with the car to get a quote, and then it would depend on how many cars I have before you. I said, "Sir, I just asked you a simple question expecting a simple answer". He sounded very upset for some reason and said 'if you don't like my answer, which is what I just told you, and normally it would take two to three days, then don't bring the car in. In fact, I don't want you to bring the car in as I don't want your business'. Then he hung up the phone before I could say anything else. I thought to myself, what kind of business is this, that you can't expect a business owner or manager to be polite enough to comply with a simple request? He really sounded mad, so I'm very glad I called instead of going to his shop. Who knows, what would have happened if I had gone there in person? I am writing so the company can make sure your front man in Kissimmee knows how to treat a prospective customer with courtesy. I would never go there now, and I definitely will not refer anyone to a place like that where you are treated like a junkyard dog. And to think, I fully intended on going to his shop later in the day. Just so glad I didn't!

On May 30, 2019 I took my 1999 Buick Regal to Econo Auto Painting to have it painted. I met with Paul at the front desk and he agreed to paint the car for a total of 296.70. I left the car with him and took a ride share home. The paint job was finished on June 3, 2019 and I picked it up the next day and paid cash. Paul gave me a copy of the invoice along with an instruction sheet as to care for the new paint. The invoice that I was given indicates at the bottom that repair work is warranted for 90 days/3000 miles and further stated 'This invoice must be presented upon any claim for adjustment.'

On July 17, 2019 I noticed a small, approximate 1? spot on the roof of the car where the paint peeled off exposing the metal surface. I took a picture of the damage. On July 23, I drove to Econo Auto Painting with my invoice so that they could fix it. I was met at the front desk by employee, Kevin. Kevin told me that Paul no longer worked there. I presented my invoice to Kevin and he immediately told me he couldn't authorize the warranty work and pointed to a sign on one of the walls that stated warranty work must be requested with the Green copy of the invoice. I told him that I had no recollection of a Green invoice and that I was given this White copy when I picked up my vehicle. I was also never directed to read the sign when I dropped the car off.. (I also was never directed to another sign on another wall that stares they accepted cash only, so I had to go to an ATM and return when I picked up my car). Kevin adamantly refused to help me or even look at my car. He said that this has happened to other people as well...He finally agreed to take my phone number so that the area supervisor 'Tad? would call me the next day. I called the next day as no one had called. Kevin told me that I would most definitely receive a call. As of this time, close of business, I have not received any call.

Mr Moore Acknowledged receipt of a work order (Which he did indeed sign and was given the green copy when he dropped off his vehicle) Said receipt CLEARLY states that we accept Cash, Cashiers check or Money Order as form of payment (This is also Placed on the wall in BOLD RED LETTERS) The copy of Mr Moore's work order was placed in his vehicle for purposes of matching keys to cars. If Mr Moore would call 352-*** They will put him in contact with Tad *** the Area Supervisor and Tad will meet with Mr Moore to discuss his complaint

Customer Response • Aug 01, 2019

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
The response did not address the complaint which was concerning the paint job which peeled well within the warranty period. The company originally declined to honor the warranty stating that I had the wrong colored receipt.
I was able to reach Tad, the area supervisor. Tad met with me and agreed to repaint the area that peeled off.
As of this date the spot that was peeling has been repaired

"SURPRISINGLY SUB-PAR WORK IS NOT MY MAIN COMPLAINT, 654 MILES IS!!!"
I went to the shop on 4/1/19, and man did I get April Fooled! I had a scratch on my SUV from almost the front of my back passenger door to just touching the back bumper, and some smudges on the brake light. I was given a quote that morning for $426.40 for just the back door and the back quarter panel, no bumper. I thanked the guy and told him I'd let him know once I spoke with my mom, whom was going to help me pay for it. He said that if I brought it back to him by the end of the day, he would do the job for $350 out the door, AND would throw in the back bumper. So I said ok, and went and got 2 more quotes. They both resulted to be more expensive, so around 5:15pm that day I went back and allowed them to work on my vehicle. Around noon on Thursday 4/4/19, I get a call from the shop saying my vehicle is ready for pick up. I get there and I immediately go to inspect it. The first thing I noticed was how extremely dirty and dusty it was. They did not even have the decency to rinse it off, as to hide their sub-par work under the dust. I continued to inspect and wipe the door, quarter panel, & back bumper off with my hand to see their work, and as I mentioned before, it was sub-par at best. The paint was not an exact match as I was told it would be. The whole side of the door was extremely dull and did not match the front door, or rest the SUV. They also left what appeared to be either dirt flying as they were painting or a dirty paint gun tip spitting small bumpy spots in the paint on the door. Now being this alone sufficient for a complaint, it's my main issue. I said to myself "You get what you pay for, right?". However, after I went in and paid the guy, I get in my SUV and I immediately notice that my gas tank was near empty, and when I dropped it off it had at minimum a half tank. So then I grab the receipt that was left on the dash board and notice the miles say 62,176. Then I look at my odometer and it showed 62,830. So I immediately go back in the shop and tell the guy there is almost a 700 mile difference from the receipt THEY GAVE ME, and my odometer. He chuckingly said, "There's no way we put those miles on there." So I showed him THEIR receipt and took him to see my odometer, which I had not even moved it yet. He continued to deny it as I was showing him the proof. Then when I mentioned my gas he said, "Well I guess do you want $20 for gas?" I said,"You need to give me something for those 700 miles!" So we went back inside and he gives me a $20 bill. At this point I was so irate being that I this had made me late to pick up my son from school for a Dr.'s appt., and of being hopeful of being treated as a valued patron, and wanting to possibly bring more work, and referrals, I just took the $20 and stormed out. As the days went on I continued to noticed things on the SUV that were not there. Such as scratches on the door/ceiling fabric, slight scratch along back window, air-vent handles missing/broken. Now mind you, I had just bought the SUV on 03/23/19, so these things would not have been there. I have attached pictures of their receipt along with a picture of my odometer, which shows the day & time taken. It clearly shows the mileage difference when the SUV is in their possession. Please help. Also, they are a CASH ONLY BUSINESS... Hmmmm?? I wonder why??

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a full refund from the company for every single thing mentioned in my complaint, and for abusing my trust as a patron and driving my vehicle without my permission, and putting all those miles on it. Also, for the EXTREME RISK of having something happen while they were driving it wherever they did.

Contact Name and Title: Tad Stanford Area Manager
Contact Phone: 813-933-7521

Mr.,

I apologize for your inconvenience with this matter and look forward to resolving it quickly. After speaking with the Manager who assisted you on the delivery day of your vehicle about your concerns here is what I understand occurred: At no time was the dust/vehicle being dirty mentioned at pick up, the incorrect mileage was recoreded at the time the Work Order was written and signed by you, we do not check gas gauges at time of drop off since we do not take customers vehicles off property so the 700 miles mentioned is a clerical error. Besides the mileage/gas issue I'm being told you loved the job we performed on your SUV by not only the Store Manager but by another Management employee that was in the office during the delivery. On to the items you mentioned that have been noticed since the delivery I cannot comment on except our procedure is for you to take the vehicle back to the N Tampa location and go over your concerns with the Store Manager. The dull paint you mentioned and sub-par body work also need to mentioned so he can inspect it and advise if and/or when a warranty repair would be scheduled. Also, since you just purchased the vehicle on 3/23/19 you should have the mileage at purchase on your papaerwork. This should show that the mileage written on 4/1/19 on your Work Order was nothing more than a clerical error. Please attach a copy of our Work Order and a copy of your SUV purchase invoice for comparison with your response. Or, you can bring them both with you to the shop for review when you bring in the SUV for your warranty claim. Thank yo for your patronage and we look forward to resolving your issues quickly.

Contracted Econo to repaint my hood and roof of cab of my 2008 Ford F-150 and they put a big dent in roof, over sprayed entire truck and long scratch on right front fender from painting hood. Then they as much as called me a liar and that the truck came in with the dent and the over spray was just dust. I had another auto painter quote and inspect this truck 20 miles previously on odometer and no roof damage was noted or scratch on side of truck and they also confirmed over spray on entire vehicle. I have written documentation of these facts and intend to file courtcase against Econo if they do not make this right as their poor workmanship and damages are estimated at $770.00 just to repair roof and over spray not even counting the 1 1/2 foot scratch on fender.

Econo Auto Painting Response

My Area Supervisor spoke w/ Mr M today 7-20-17 and set-up to have this taken care of on Monday 7-24-17. However when someone mentions court case we typically stop doing ANYTHING pending the outcome of the lawsuit.. The scratch was not mentioned when Mr M spoke w/ my Area Supervior. Econo Auto Painting has been in Business for over 55 years and we stand behind our product as Mr H old Mr M when they set up the appointment for Monday 7-24-17 at 9 am. Mr M complaint to you seems to be frivolous as he ALREADY had this appointment set-up. Mr H (Area Supervisor) has made 2 attempts to call Mr M and was sent directly to voicemail After the 1st ring both times) The outcome is now in his hands
