1) The salesperson asks to see your Fortis bill to find your gas rate ($/GJ).
2) They say you will save money by locking in at their rate if Fortis's prices climb.
3) They don't mention that they have never offered comparable prices to Fortis (over any contract length).
Now, the purposeful use of a bait and switch (all 3 pitches I have heard did exactly the same thing):
4) They say that if "rates" go down, your "rate" goes lower than the fixed rate of your contract.
The deception is that the conversation started by referring to your flexible "rate" from Fortis. But at point 4), the term "rate" began referring to the price offered by EasyEnergy. Allow me to clarify:
To the consumer, point 4) sounds like, "If Fortis starts offering a lower rate than us, you will receive that same rate."
What is actually being said is, "Once you're locked in with us, if the rate WE offer on NEW CONTRACTS falls below the rate of your EXISTING CONTRACT, you have the option of renewing your contract with us at the lower rate."
They call this option of renewing your contract at a lower rate a "Protection Plan". It is being misrepresented as: "Your rate with will always be either the same as Fortis's rate or lower. You can't lose!".
Of course, it is a grift. Just remember that you have 10 days to cancel. Their cancellations department is FANTASTIC and easy to deal with! Credit given where credit is due! And the salesperson is nice, but still earning a living grifting, so hopefully looking for new work. God speed!
Office is located at owner's home 2876 161A Street Surrey. It is best to deal with any problems face to face. Their website address is not yet updated.
A man came to my door, I was clearly busy cooking dinner and had my *** young daughters running around. He was wearing a hard hat, reflective vest and work boots. He mumbled along that he needed to confirm my metering and that he had to check my bill. I said, do I have to do this now and he said yes. I grabbed my bill and showed him. Then he asked if I liked *** and that tomorrow when I get a call to confirm my services that I'd get a $20 card. Then I clued in and asked if he was from *** and he said no but I want to get you the best rates blah blah blah. I told him that I'd be closing the door now.
A salesperson came to our door and very strongly advocated we purchase an Easy Energy gas contract. He wasn't clear in detailing the costs and never answered our specific questions about gas rate differences between Easy Energy and ***, our current supplier.
He insisted that we sign the contract right then, saying we could cancel within 10 days.
After he left, we researched our rates with *** and the Easy Energy rate for gas, which the salesman never shared. We saw that Easy Energy charged a rate THREE TIMES HIGHER than our rate with ***
We left a detailed phone message to cancel the contract. The following day an Easy Energy staff called us saying they had a 'missed call' from us, but never mentioned the voice message. We cancelled the contract and received an email to confirm the cancellation.
I have just cancelled a gas supply contract that an EasyEnergy door-to-door representative had me sign for the following reasons ...
First, he lied that EasyEnergy held a high rating with the Revdex.com ***.
Second, he lied when he told me that I would get the benefit of automatic lower gas prices if they go down ... the fine print (emailed to me later on) says that the onus is on me to track gas prices and to notify you to claim any lower price.
Third, he implied that I would start by paying the current price charged by ***. However, the fine print says that my maximum price is QUADRUPLE the current *** price and that the actual price would not be set until after this agreement has taken effect. Why would I sign something where the cost is not clearly specified?
Fourth, he did not provide me with a copy of the "It's Your Choice" booklet at the door but some other EasyEnergy brochure ... an obsolete version (Jan 2016) of the booklet was included with the emailed PDF contract which also showed a gas price nearly $1/GJ higher than the current *** price ... fortunately I found the correct document on the *** website (Feb 2019)
Fifth, he never mentioned that there were differing plans and options, so he was not up front with all the details. I have no idea if the "Easy Green" option he silently added in means an increased (hidden) cost.
Sixth, there was no mention of the high cost of early termination, or the fact that it can only be done on an anniversary date ... only that I was locked in for 5 years and the contract would follow me even if I moved to a new residence.
For the above lies and mis-representations, I have cancelled the contract 24 hours after the salesman came by.
