I would like for a refund of training fees. I purchased a puppy from duckhill kennels in May of 2014. I returned him in September of 2014 for gun dog training to last 3 months. he was supposed to be ready to hunt upon completion of the 3 month process. When he was returned he was gun shy and acted as if he had never seen a live or dead bird. I believe the training that I paid for never took place. Others familiar with gun dog training agree and could not believe they sent a dog back in the condition he was inDesired SettlementI would like a refund of the training fees paid to duckhill kennels for training that I believe never occurred. Training fees came to a total of 2400 dollars or 800 dollars a month for 3 months. There is no way a dog can be sent to a gun dog trainer and come back gun shy and act like he has never seen a live or dead bird. Business Response Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)In response to Duckhill Kennels assessment of the so called training my puppy received I can only say this The people at the kennel are very friendly. They seem to be quick the to give you the answers that they believe you want to hear not necessarily the true answer. The grade sheet the have provided has no dates to show when it was filled out or even if it was my puppy. He was doing almost all the stations prior to the "3 months" of gun dog training. The day I picked him up I was so disappointed at his progress I only wanted to get him away from the kennel. As far as the training they say he received they only made him gun shy. The cannon they have does not take the place of shooting over a gun dog. I signed a list of other things he was to be taught like hunting from a tree stand, boat, and dog ground blind. All had to be taught upon returning home from "the training" . I believe the sold me possibly the best puppy I may ever have but I honestly think I have been ripped off by the "gun dog training provided" . I completed my part of the contract and have the receipts to prove it but I feel the kennel failed on their end and also have a gun shy pup to prove it!Final Business Response We have already responded. The information is the same as the first response. I regret that Mr. [redacted] feels the way he does, and that he chose not to call us or inform us when he picked the puppy up that he was unhappy.
Duckbill Kennels advertises that is breeds exceptional dogs with no defects- our dog less than 2 years old has been Diagnosted with hip dysplacia Our dog has been diagnosed with hip dysphlacia of both hips- early arthritis and floating knee caps- our dog is less than two years old- Duckhill represents that their legacy lab dogs are free of defects- that the lineage is free of defects- that the parents are free of defects- we left our pup with Duckhill for the 4 month additional training- which we paid extra for this service- we are facing multiple surgeries at an estimated cost of $8,000. We have tried to discuss this with Mr. [redacted] the owner and no one will speak to us.Desired SettlementExpect help with cost of surgeries and refund of the cost to purchase and train- this dog can no longer be used as a hunting companion- which is what he was purchased for- Business Response At Duckhill we represent that our breeding dogs are tested and evaluated for hip dysplasia and for progressive retinal atrophy. at duckhill, when a customer picks up a puppy, he is given a 10 return period in which to return the puppy for a full refund. We recommend to the customer that he take the puppy to his veterinarian and get a full health exam during that 10 day period. we highly recommend to the customer that he obtain a pet health insurance policy brokered by the [redacted]. Registration of the puppy validates the certificate for the free month premium. Mr. [redacted] obviously chose to not insure his puppy's health. The parent of Mr. [redacted]'s puppy were x-rayed and evaluated for dysplasia by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. The sire was evaluated as Excellent. The dam was evaluated as Good. This information is available to the public on the OFA website. Most veterinary experts agree that hip dysplasia has genetic component and an environmental component. Opinions vary on the heretibility factor from 60% to 70%. Thus leaving 30% to 40% to environmental causes. There is general agreement that the principle environmental factors promoting hip dysplasia are over feeding, over exercise of growing puppies. the breeding of parents whose hips were evaluated by OFA as Excellent for the sire and Good for the dam, took care of the genetic components. Mr. [redacted] is engaging in behavior that is defamatory and libelous.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)The Breeder kept the Pup in question from 8-16weeks at our request on a Puppy Training programinvolving climbing stairs, going thru pipes, andother obstacle courses that may have been too extensive and vigorous for a 8 Week old pup thatweighed less than 10 pounds. [redacted] was only 14 pounds when we got him home at 16 months. We feelthis intensive training conducted at Duckhill Kennels in his very, early life combined with asmaller than average Pup ([redacted]) may have greatly contributed to this condition. We fedthe exact diet and amount and product on the instructions, and trained [redacted] in a very sensible way about 5-10 minutes at most 3 days a week and only walks and non-leash runs on off days. The [redacted] feel the genetic Factor is 80% and that this Sire and Dam should never be bred again. I would like to find out how [redacted]'s Litter mates are doing and contact the owners to see if any of their Pups have this condition.
