Dirt Cheap Auto Service

I contacted Matt C of Dirt Cheap Auto Service to make a simple repair to a 2002 Toyota Corolla. A small plastic coupling had failed that links the automatic transmission gear shift lever to the transmission cable. The dealership wants to sell you the whole cable even though it is only the small plastic coupling was broken. Many DIYers and auto service companies have fixed the problem using generic plastic couplings available at any automotive parts place. I knew the problem and simply wanted Matt to fix it for me since it involves taking off the console to get to the coupling and I didn't feel like messing with it. He arrived quite a bit late, but was happy he came initially. The problem appeared to be fixed but it was dark and late when he finished so I didn't get a chance to test drive it until the next day. It did work for a little while but I noticed he didn't put the console back properly; there was about half inch gap on the left side where he hadn't pushed it back in place but still put in the console screws. I called him and he said he would be out in about a week as he was busy. I didn't mind since it seemed like a cosmetic issue but after one drive the new coupling he installed either failed or fell off and the vehicle is back to the same condition except now it's even worse since the console wasn't put back together properly. I called Matt and he said he wouldn't be available for a week or two. After waiting at least another week or two I called him and got the same story. After more than a month I called again and same story; too busy to come over. I told him at this point to simply refund the $55 I paid and I'd get someone else to fix it. He agreed verbally. I told him to have the check to me in about a week or I would file a complaint and write a review online. He never sent the check to me. He said he had my address from the receipt.
