DH Plumbing, *** was hired to fix a water system issue on a 9 year old system with no previous issues. On the phone he indicated he charged a nominal mileage fee. He spent less than 5 minutes diagnosing the issue, drove to pick up a part and returned in less than 40 minutes, installed a check valve in less than 10 minutes and left. The bill I was given had a 2 hour labor charge, $50 vehicle charge and 59.38 materials. I called and emailed to ask for justification on the second hour of labour and was told he charged for the time he drove to and from his office. This is not common practice is my experience to double charge for travel. ***. I sent payment for 1 hour labour, the $50 mileage charge, the materials and tax along with my explanation of how I followed up on fair billing. The next invoice I received now had AN ADDITIONAL 1.5 hours labour AND another $50 vehicle charge, for an added $177.50, with a written note that *** had retraced his steps to confirm the distance he travelled that day and was charging me for this! ***. ***? AND his repair did not fix the problem! He clearly did not test the system. I noticed next day it was not fixed. I called a different plumber who travelled to location, diagnosed, replaced the pressure tank and charged 1 hour labour plus parts. The system has now been working well.
Mr. has arbitrarily added charges. A single visit, 5 min repair, 12 minutes outside city limits, is now $513.32, $59.32 of which is parts. 3.5 hr labour, $100 vehicle!
