Dennis Kevin O'Kane Remodeling

In or around beginning of July 2019 I found a contractor by the name of Dennis O'Kane in the Albany craigslist to help me finish my home due to numerous theft. Mr O'Kane signed contract July 2019. Based on an estimate and contract, my bank issued 5 checks to Mr. O'Kane: Two for building materials, two for his labor, and one for an electrician (***) he claimed he hired from the city Union 2.

When I notified Mr O'Kane that he was doing the install incorrectly. He sent an email early August that he was stopping work until he had the Code Enforcer review work completed. When the Code enforcer told him on the phone that it was wrong, Mr O'Kane not only missed two scheduled meetings with the code enforcer, but he decided to come on my property on Aug 16th 2019 (after he was told not to tresspass until code met) and steal my building materials I bought including ones I supplied myself, and returned them to Home depot for cash refund.

Mr O'Kane has since run off with 1K of my out of pocket deposit and the 10,500 money the bank gave him for the construction. During this time a warrant for his arrest was issued. I found the electrician and he confirmed that he was never contracted to work on my house but the 3K that Mr O'Kane got from my bank was returned to me in good faith. Mr O'Kane has refused to return my money unless I take him to court, unfortunately, Mr. O'Kane has no residence in order for me to file suit. The insurance he provided has denied the claim as they don't cover poor workmanship since he damaged all existing materials on site and materials purchased in Aug. I will pursuing this case through the Police due to the warrant. There is no other recourse. This man is a career con artist. Stay away! Please see link of one of his many scams.
