I ordered a SunSetter 1000XT model manual awning from local dealer D&D Contracting (Mr. [redacted], owner). After installation, I could not set the legs of the awning. SunSetter Products’ advertisement & portrayal of the 1000XT model’s “ease” of use is misleading. I strained my back trying to set the legs. The dealer/installer did not know how to properly operate it & actually broke the wand trying to extend the awning. I ordered a replacement awning, which was motorized, in a different color, & very expensive. Mr. [redacted] ordered the wrong color; ignored my concerns about the color & using proper tools to level the awning (I had to beg him to use the level); employs an argumentative and insulting workman that I had to deal with; dismissed my concerns several times, requiring me to repeat requests (e.g., I had to beg him to use a level). I do not believe that a customer’s requests for product location of choice, fabric color, proper installation, and cleaning up one’s own mess are unreasonable requests. Also, Mr. [redacted] did not keep his word about filling the holes he made in my siding (with my permission) when installing the manual awning.
I have spent $1000.00 more than I can comfortably afford; I have an awning that is in a location that I do not want, in a color I do not want, at an angle that is too steep (and lop-sided); and I am without the SunSetter tool (which I paid for) needed to adjust the angle (a service I paid for). In his reply to the [redacted] Resolution Center, Mr. [redacted] stated, “I will fill the holes in her siding. She told my men to leave before they could do it. I will replace the cover for $100, like I said I would. The retail price of the cover is $625. I will slide the awning over 18 inches to the center of the door.” The men who came to my house made no mention of filling holes; had no equipment or supplies to do any work at all. I do not believe that I should pay for another awning fabric, as this was not my error, but entirely D&D Contracting’s error. And to “slide the awning over 18 inches” will not provide the coverage over my door that I wanted in the first place. All in all, this is just not working out. I am sorry, but I cannot afford to pay $2500 for a product that does not function to meet my needs and looks awful. What’s more, should the awning ever need repair, I would have to contact a company I do not trust for repairs, and a company who obviously does not appreciate the fact that I am the customer who paid for their product and services, and not for misinformation and insults. NOTE: I will forward a more detailed report to the Revdex.com that includes receipts and photographs.
