Curves

I joined curves in April of 2016. I had health issues from December on and in December I had suspended my membership. I asked at that time to cancel my membership but was told by *** that I couldn't until May of 2017. I was never told that they needed a 30 day notice.
May X XXXX I called and spoke to *** and told her I wanted to cancel my membership and not to process and payments forth going. She informed me that I needed to sign a cancellation form and it would be done. I informed here I would be in to sign and asked that she notate my folder that I'm cancelling and not to process my check. She said she would and not to worry as they would not process a payment.
I didn't make it in on May 1st but spoke to a *** and let her know I was still coming there, she said I was fine. On May 2nd I also left a message in the evening stating I would be in the following day and I was having trouble getting there. May 3 I called and left a message and a *** called me back. I informed her I was still coming in to cancel and she informed me she had processed my check that day.
Curves debited my account 49.00 without my consent as I verbally cancelled with three people, and went there on May 3 and physically cancelled.
I stated way back in December 2016 that I wanted to cancel.
I don't know why they made it so difficult to cancel this membership when I was later informed that I could of emailed my cancellation.
