Brett *** is the owner of this gym. He was my personal trainer and charged me 500$ for ten lessons, which is 50$ a leaaon for the month of July, 2019. Fee was paid ahead of time. Brett was aware that my family and I will be relocating from Libertyville to Burr Ridge IL in August, 2019. Prior to our relocation he was unable to provide me with the tenth lesson due to his busy schedule. After my relocation, I contacted Brett via text message on october 23rd 2019 stating that I'll be unable to travel an hour for one pending lesson and requested for a refund of 50$. He did not reply. I texted him again on the 28th of October, again no reply. I called him and left a message in January,he did not call me back.
He finally replied to my email on february 11th and stated that he never received my texts but did not clarify my query if his number was changed. He avoided my request about the refund and offered to give a lesson or 2 group lessons for 50$. I replied to him and indicated that I would prefer a refund because it was impossible for me to travel an hour just for one work out in the midst of a busy schedule. He never replied.
He had no written policy or agreements about refunds for personal training. He is avoiding me passive aggressively inspite of my repeated attempt to reach him. His poor business tactic and basic principle of not addressing a customer who paid him in full is is very disappointing.
Hi,
I did respond to Kamal via email to explain to her that she chose to for 10 sessions in advance at $50 per session rather than paying the individual session rate of $60 per session. Had she paid for each session individually, the 9 sessions would have cost her $540. Contacting me for a refund is trying to take advantage of paying a lesser rate for the sessions she did attend. I gladly offered to give her that credit to use at my gym any time. When she moved away she told me she would definitely be back in the area to use that last $50 of credit. It's not about the $50 for me, It's the principal of paying a lower rate for commiting to a group of sessions, and then asking for a refund. This is the reason I offer lower rates for a pack of sessions for personal training clients and for commiting to long term memberships for my group class clients. In ten years of business, I have never had anyone try to take advantage of this and get a refund. It is very surprising and disappointing to me that Kamal has taken it this far, and if paying the $50 back will end this I will just do that. Thank you.
It was never about the 50$. Brett could have simply explained to me that he doesn't do refunds, like he did to this complaint, instead of ghosting me for months. I would have readily accepted it. Not responding to my messages and voicemail and stating that he "never" received them was disrespectful. My main goal was to help him understand that communication is important for relationships to continue. If 50$ was worth avoiding my calls, then that 50$ is important to me too.
Sincerely,
Kamal
