Cristine's Residential Care Facility for the Elderly

Review: My 92 year old aunt died on October 27, 2013 while living at Cristine's. Payment for her care was required & paid each month in advance. Payment for the next 30/31 days was not due until November 8,2013, therefore, as stated in the contract I was given, I thought a refund for 11 days was owed me. The Owner/Administrator of Cristine's refused because my aunts possessions were not collected immediately. She claims that it is in the "California" contract, which I'm not sure what she means but I did not get any such info. I asked to look at my aunt's file and, except for her medication log, etc., the contract in the file is what I signed & states that a refund is made for unused days. If there is such a rule, I believe I was deliberately deceived, especially because I spoke to the owner 5 times after my aunts death, twice in person when I picked up a photo album for a photo for her obituary. Also,I said to her that I'd pick up my aunt's clothes (it's all she had!) after the funeral, she actually replied "oh, don't worry about it". At that point, an honest person would have given me a heads-up, especially knowing that I don't live in Santa Maria and I could have picked up the clothes when I was there making funeral arrangements. This in no way prevented the owner from accepting another client because I know that the facility had other rooms available and, as of December 9, 2013, the room my aunt occupied had not been rented. The monthly cost at the residence was $2850.00, which equals $91.94/day X 11 unused days = $1,011.34. This is not chump change. I'm sickened over this and I truly believe a refund is in order.Desired Settlement: A full refund of $1,011.34.
