Mr. [redacted] came in and asked us if we could repair his 93 [redacted], which included upper and lower ball joints, CV axles, and the pinion seal. He was going to supply the parts. JT, our mechanic, asked if he needed a written quote. He replied, “No, just fix it. All the parts are in the...
vehicle, if you need anything else, just call me.” No one at our shop gave him a quote of any kind. The mechanic had not even looked it up on the computer at that point. We then took it in the shop and worked on it. The front driveline had to be removed to replace the pinion seal. The rear did not, but our mechanic did remove 1 end, thinking we had to do U-joints, but caught this before removing them. Mr. [redacted] showed up and his vehicle was still on the lift being worked on. We showed him that the rusty sway bar end links had been broken during the disassembly to replace the ball joints. He was fine with that as we did not charge him any additional labor for the end links or installing the CV axles while it was apart. When he came to pay the bill on the 23rd, we told him the price and he questioned it, so we pulled up the labor times on our [redacted] program for replacing these parts on our computer and showed him them. He then got a sour attitude, paid the bill and left. This vehicle was dropped off on May 22nd and was completed on May 23rd. We hadn’t heard anything from him until May 31st when he called and said we had overcharged him, he had gotten other quotes and he was going to turn us in to the Revdex.com and talk to the Attorney General. Tom talked to him and said that we had done everything correctly and had actually given him a break for the end links and CV axles. After Mr. [redacted] threatened to turn us in to the Revdex.com, Tom told him that was fine and hung up the phone. Mr. [redacted] then called back and Kameran answered. Kameran was on the phone with him for 20 minutes trying to explain how book time with auto repair works and trying to reason with him, but Mr. [redacted] kept accusing us of overcharging him. Kameran finally told him we were sorry he felt he was overcharged and if he felt the need to talk to the Attorney General, that was fine. He did not hang up on him.
