Review: While attempting to diagnose a transmission problem with my Jeep Cherokee on the side of the road I was approached by [redacted] Costello who informed me that he had a transmission for it at his shop. I called a couple days later to arrange for them to tow my vehicle to his repair shop and have it repaired. It took a week for them to come and pick up my vehicle, after I had called them multiple times to arrange a time and getting no results. Once my vehicle was diagnosed [redacted] gave me an estimate for repairs and asked for a $1000 deposit, which I put on my VISA card. After a few days I called the shop to ask what the status was on my vehicle, at which time I was told some bolts were stripped and some wires were cut. All of these would need to be replaced. After a few more days I called the repair shop once again and was told the same thing. At this point I started calling various shops in the area asking how long it should take to repair my vehicle, the general consesus was a couple of days. Having felt that something wasn't right at Costello's Auto Repair I went down to the shop and asked to have my vehicle back. When I did this [redacted] said he didn't like my attitude and that I needed to pay the full estimate in cash to get my vehicle back. I was only able to pull out $1000 in cash and asked if I could put the other &278 on my Visa card which he already accepted once. At this point I called the San Diego Sheriff's Department to help facilitate the release of my vehicle. [redacted] stated to me that he had stuff to do and was leaving. I was able to get my vehicle out of the shop the following morning, at which time [redacted] stated the only thing left to be done was a new started had to be put in because the old one was stripped when he took it out. I put in a new starter, but the vehicle wouldn't start. I then had the vehicle towed to Eric's Auto Repair in fallbrook, Ca. Once diagnosed, I was told that there were numerous bolts that weren't to the right torque, which caused the flywheel to crack.Desired Settlement: In total, with towing including I spent just over $3000 on a repair that should not have cost more than $1500. I paid $2278.60 to Costello's Auto Repair not only for poor service, but inproper repair done to my vehicle. Eric's Auto Repair provided me with a written estimate and quote of repairs which outlines all the things done by Costello's that were not properly completely and hastily done. Which I then had to pay Eric's Auto Repair to correct.
