I signed up for auto insurance through Cost-u-Less Insurance. I dealt with ***. She gave me a quote, and my husband made the initial payment for $191.00 on 3-29-19 from his checking account, which I am not a signer on. I was told by phone and received by mail a Premium Due Notice, which shows my installment amounts due as $105.04 and then $105.92 per month. So far so good. Then I received a call on 4-9-19 that I had a $180.00 brokerage fee. I was never told about a brokerage fee, never agreed to a brokerage fee, and never signed an agreement for a brokerage fee. They have also threatened to debit my husband's checking account for the fee, using the same check # that he used for the initial payment. This would constitute theft and fraud, as my husband authorized one payment only, not a recurring payment, and I am not even on his account. If they steal from his account, he will file a police report and a report with the FBI, as well as go straight to the media. Cost-U-Less tries to claim that I was told about the brokerage fee on a recorded phone conversation, but this never happened. Further, California is a two-party consent state with regard to recording phone calls, and if I was not informed that the call was being recorded from the beginning of the call, then Cost-U-Less has violated California state law.
We apologize for the experience the customer had with our company. We have made several attempts to contact Ms. to resolve her concern, but have not been able to reach her. Our records show Ms. called our sales office on March 26, 2019 to obtain a quote. She purchased Liability and Uninsured Motorist on a 2014 Ford Focus. The fully disclosed broker fee was $187.65. Additionally, there was also a documentation fee of $25.00 and a split down payment of $15.00. The total down payment was $371.00 of which $143.35 was submitted to the insurance carrier. Ms. paid by check $191.00 at the time of the sale and authorized the remaining balance of $180.00 to be withdrawn from her checking account on or after April 9, 2019. The transaction was completed electronically and all documents were sent to Ms. via email and verbally explained. During the transaction, Ms. was asked to review all documents for accuracy. She was not forced into signing anything without reading it. Ms. electronically signed the documents there by agreeing to the terms. Nevertheless, as a courtesy, we are waiving the $180.00 balance due to resolve the matter.
Cost u less are scam artists with horrible customer service people who lie on a regular basis. My broker Nash at Modesto cost u less insurance charged me $450 broker fee and said it was for down payment on policy. Set me up with Stonewood insurance who are just as big of scammers charge all kinds of hidden fees inclung a $50 cancellation fee and very poor customer service and not any cheaper than top rated insurance companies. Going to cancel my policy hoping I have no issues with them refunding me for the part of my policy I didn't use and hopefully Nash at cost u less will refund me my supposed down payment that she stuck in her pocket. I would not recommend anyone use this company unless u want to be ripped off and lied to. Would give them negative stars if I could. DO NOT USE COST U LESS INSURANCE
