Continental Finance Company Reviews (680)

We have reviewed your concern and find that your Continental Finance Matrix Discover Card was converted to a Continental Finance Matrix MasterCard in November 2013 and the residual balance of $162.05 was transferred to your MasterCard account.  On December 11, 2013 you cancelled the Matrix...

MasterCard and was advised that you were still responsible for the outstanding balance owed.  The account fell past due and was assessed fees and finance charges.  On June 17, 2014, we received a $50.00 payment and on July 11, 2014 we received a $216.00 payment.  You were then provided a refund of fees totaling $141.00 on October 15,2 014.  This left a residual balance of $58.86.  Due to this residual balance, the account continued to cycle and be assessed fees and finance charges until reaching charge off status.  The debt was then sold to UDH, an outside debt buyer.  Since we find that the entire charged off balance was  comprised of all fees, we have recalled the debt from UDH and have processed an update to your credit file to reflect the account as closed/paid in full.  We have removed the negative payment history from the date of your $216.00 payment.  Please allow 4-6 weeks for the credit reporting agencies to process this update.  thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.  We trust that our response will be met with your satisfaction. Sincerely,[redacted]Vice PresidentCustomer Relations

Our records indicate that on June 6, 2015, we received an application, via the internet, for the Surge MasterCard, containing your personal information.  This application for credit was approved for a secured MasterCard account with the requirement of a $150.00 Security Deposit. ...

An email was sent to the email address provided during the application process advising of the credit decision and included instructions on how to fund the security deposit.  To date, you have not funded this security deposit and no account has been opened. We are including a printout of the email that was sent regarding this credit decision.  As indicated on the enclosed printout of the application and the decision email, we find that the email address is a match the contact information you have provided to the Revdex.com.  Therefore, we find that you had knowledge of this application and find no evidence to substantiate your allegation that the application was submitted without your knowledge and the inquiry cannot be deleted.  Sincerely,Vice PresidentCustomer Relations

Since we have found that the information on the applications match contact information you have provided to the Revdex.com, we find insufficient evidence to substantiate your allegation that these applications were submitted without your knowledge.  Therefore, if you wish to dispute the inquiries placed on you credit file due to the applications submitted, please provide a completed police report indicating that you have been the victim of Identity theft from someone who had personal knowledge of your contact information, including your email address in which you would have received contact by CFC regarding the applications submitted in your name.  The completed police report should be sent to CFC, PO Box 8099, Newark, DE 19714 and must include your desire to prosecute any individual(s) found responsible for the theft of your identity.

Per our previous response, we included the Terms & Conditions of this account. You had electronically read and accepted these terms prior to the submission of your application for credit, which clearly disclose the fee structure of the product. Upon approval, you were sent your card and the cardholder agreement, which also clearly disclosed the fee structure of this product. you then contacted our activation department and was disclosed, via a recorded message, the fee structure of this product. Upon selection of your agreement of these terms, you were then transferred to a representative who again disclosed the fee structure of the card. Upon your final verbal acceptance to these terms, your card was activated. As you can see, we take great measures to ensure that all consumers are disclosed the fee structure of the card, prior to activation and use. Your use of the card for purchases indicates your acceptance to the terms & conditions and we cannot honor your request for a refund of these fees.
We find that we have adequately responded to your concern and consider this matter resolved.

I am currently a card holder and recently, and inadvertently, missed a payment by a few days. As a result of the holidays I merely forgot. In most cases I would expect some type of phone call.
I began to receive phone calls from an 866 number that was calling nearly 5 times per day for 3 consecutive days at random hours. The times I did not pick up, there was no voicemail. The times I did, at least 8, no one was on the phone. I repeated “hello” several times and then the call just disconnected.
Believing it to be spam I was about to block the number from my phone. I decided to google the number and after reading the large number of complaints similar to mine, I realized it was from Continental Finance. That’s when it occurred to me that I was a few days late on my payment. I immediately made the payment; no harm no foul to my credit report.
However, if I had not done that search there is a good chance I might have just forgot to make the payment and would have never known the 15 calls which left no message when I answered, and just disconnected when I did, were from this company.
This practice is disgraceful and a cynical person would believe that it was intentional as a way to keep people late and collect late fees. Whether intentional or not, the practice is a disgrace and frankly embarrassing. There appears to be a problem with the dialer that needs to be addressed ASAP.

appear below.
First and foremost, the act of continuing to charge me late fees on a closed account makes no sense. I will NOT be paying the remainder as this is in fact your fault due to the failure to accept my payment after verbal communication for such was requested and provided. The goal of making me jump through all the hoops I can any assume was to keep my account with a balance to be able to charge a late fee. Once my account was closed, there was no reason to charge a late fee. I will not be paying a dime until this issue is resolved

The response regarding the reject reason was based strictly on the information provided by the payment processor and was as follows "This payment was rejected due to a failed
verification.  This is typically due to a
bad address or CVV2 values; however, American Express Centurion Bank did not
indicate the verification failure reason at the time of their rejection of the
payment"Since payments made via the internet can only be made via ACH using a checking account, and since American Express Centurion Bank had not provided the reject reason, it could only be assumed that it was due to a bad address or CVV2 codes.  Please be advised that any discrepancy regarding the return reason of the payment does not change the remainder of our response regarding the account.

When a payment over $200 is returned by a financial institution, CFC will revoke the charging privileges of the MasterCard account and require that the payment be replaced using guaranteed funds from a money order, money gram or quick collect before the account is...

reinstated.  We have reviewed your account and fidn that upon the return of your $279.00 payment, your charging privileges were revoked.  You then made a $279.00 nonguaranteed payment to replace the return item.  Although this does not meet the requirement for reinstatement of the account, we have reinstated your charging privileges as a courtesy.  Please note that any return of future large payments will result in the revocation of charging privileges and will require replacement in guaranteed funds.
We trust that our response to this matter will be met with your satisfaction.
