Mr. M from Combine Academy hasn't return my son refund , he stated that he would work with me on payments at combine Academy .
I have tried to get my refund back from Combine Academy at*** since September, 22, 2019.
I want my refund My son*** was housed in a house across the street and living conditions were unacceptable, No Air, Bugs and hot and four boys in one room . When I visited Mr. M stated he would be in the dorms on the campus. My son only stayed five days . He left because he was treated unfair . I have read in the Revdex.com about the same thing that I have complained about. Housing was horrible. The cost was high .

We would like to dispute the claims Mrs. Batchelor is making about the Combine Academy housing. These claims and comments are of inaccurate nature, fiction, and not accurately portrayed. Combine Academy offers student-athletes safe, clean, and comfortable housing arrangements. All-Inclusive housing offerings at Combine Academy are ranked by tiers, and student-athletes are placed in housing according to their tuition tier. Along with all of the other enrollees at Combine Academy for the 2019-2020 season, you paid a tuition deposit that schedules your reservation in our residence. When after 5 days, you decided to unenroll without an excused circumstance, Combine Academy had to replace the enrollment position with an applicant from our waiting list. Your deposit was acknowledged and ink signed contractually as non-refundable both prior to his enrollment and once again upon his enrollment. Those contractual documents clearly stating the refund parameters are attached, as well as your signature of acknowledgement and consent to the refund policy. You also signed an acknowledgement contract stating the residence hall you would be living at, which consents to your provided housing. All of these ink signed and dated contracts have been attached. At this time, you actually have a due balance to Combine Academy and you are in default of your full deposit. While we appreciate your feedback, we both had and currently have a tremendous group of hard working and character driven student-athletes that are both enjoying and valuing from their residential experience here at Combine Academy. We would love to rectify your experience if you could email any further details to
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Combine Academy is not telling the truth the living areas were horrible Mr. Mike sent me a email stating he would moved the boys six miles down the road.
Combine Academy does not employ, and has not employed, anyone by the name of "Mike" or "Michael" since 2015. While we understand your frustrations, you elected to remove your son from the Combine Academy program after a mere 5 days of being enrolled. Combine Academy is dedicated to the advancement and upward mobility of its student-athletes, however, we were not given the opportunity to allot these resources to your son with his extremely limited stay. If you have any further questions or feedback, please email
My son was released from Combine after I reached out with concerns. They dismissed him for vulgar language and will not provide me with any proof.
*** and I spoke daily - the first week he reported that they didn't do anything. We surmised that enrollees were still settling in and that it would take time. As time went on, and although 3 meals a day were provided by Combine, I was putting $100 a week into ***'s bank account so he could buy food, as he was not always able to get to Combine for the meals provided. He did not have a vehicle, and not many other kids in the apartments had a vehicle, so at times, they had no access to food provided by Combine. The transportation that Combine provided did not have a set schedule and the availability was very limited. Further, the Fall-ball that was promised to be part of the program was canceled without notice. This was concerning to me because it meant that he would fall short of the 45 games Combine represented that were to be provided. These games would have been key to ***'s rehab. Also, during his time there he was not enrolled in any academics and was only allowed to use the gym/weight room for 1 hour per day and when he attempted to stay longer, he would get in trouble (exercising the elbow/arm was another key part of ***'s rehab, which was discussed with A upon enrollment). Baseball practice was also only 1 - 1.5 hrs. Per day. My concerns grew exponentially. *** was spending 22 hours a day in the apartment and became depressed. I reached out to Combine Academy on Wednesday October 9th with my questions and concerns (all emails are attached) no response was received. Thursday October 10th at 7:30pm I received a phone call from the board telling me *** was being dismissed for a list of infractions and had 12 hours to leave. I was in shock, Combine was a distance of over 14 hours away. My mind was racing and when I asked about the infractions, the only example I was provided was that, *** had told the staff that the food tasted like ***". They could not tell me which staff he complained this to, nor was he ever reprimanded for that statement at the time. I then asked about my emails regarding his lack of academics and cancelled fall ball and was not provided with a response. I was simply told that he was "being dismissed". I was able to get them to agree to allow him to stay until that Saturday morning, (as we had pre-booked him on a flight to NJ for a baseball showcase weeks earlier & Combine was to provide transportation to the airport at a fee of $40, also prepaid by us) . They agreed to allow him to stay until Saturday and transport him to the airport that morning.
Ironically, I had been in touch with Adam A 2 week's prior, arranging transportation to/from the airport for the NJ Showcase, and at that time Adam A never indicated or alluded to any problems or infractions.
While I was in complete shock and confused, I sent an email confirming the conversion ensuring he had a place to stay until his Saturday flight. I asked that they confirm the email and details. This email also went unanswered. Combine never spoke to *** regarding infractions, nor did they indicate that he was being dismissed. They never provided the transportation we had prepaid to the airport Saturday morning; we had to call an *** costing us another $50. I sent another email on October 15th as***g for a 90% refund and as***g for an explanation, answers to my questions, and the list of infractions or reports of infractions, etc., however, again, no response was received. On October 17th we received an email with the refund decision. The email was addressed to *** and it stated that they made the decision to deny the request for refund. There was no explanation or answers to my questions, and no list infractions or any other information to support their decision for dismissal. Thereafter, on October 22nd and again on November 1st I sent Combine Academy emails which again were left unanswered.
Combine Academy took $12,525, promised services
I am looking for reimbursement for services as they were not provided.

Mrs.
All of these claims and comments are of inaccurate nature, fiction, and not accurately portrayed. Mrs. your son was expelled from the Combine Academy Educational Program due to multiple occurrences of misconduct after his 4th infraction of the Combine Academy Code of Conduct Policy. As stated in the Combine Academy Rules and Regulations Contract, "Combine Academy student-athletes are required to abide by the following "Rules and Regulations" set forth by Combine Academy Board of Directors or they can be dismissed from the program without a refund of tuition or fees."
On multiple occasions, your son was in direct violation of Rules #1, #2, #3, and #6 which state:
1) COMBINE ACADEMY PROHIBITS THE USE OF DRUGS, ALCOHOL, OR TOBACCO PRODUCTS DURING THE ACADEMY SEASON.
2) COMBINE ACADEMY PROHIBITS INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR SUCH AS VULGAR LANGUAGE, VIOLENT BEHAVIOR, USE OF A DEADLY WEAPON, FIGHTING, OR ANYTHING DEEMED AS INAPPROPRIATE AND/OR THREATENING BY A COMBINE ACADEMY STAFF MEMBER.
3) COMBINE ACADEMY HAS A STRICT CURFEW POLICY OF 10:00PM (EST) DURING WEEKDAYS, WHICH WILL BE DEVIATED DURING ROAD TRIPS, WEEKENDS, AND THE NIGHT BEFORE GAMES. CURFEW WILL BE VERBALLY GIVEN AND CHANGED AT ANY TIME BY COMBINE ACADEMY STAFF.
6) BREAKING THE LAW OR ANY TYPE OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY OR INVOLVEMENT IS PROHIBITED.
Additionally, our organization has collected written statements from 4 different Combine Academy student-athletes detailing your son's violent and vulgar behavior, drug use, and 3 of Combine Academy's Management Team Member's were verbally assaulted by him. Since his expulsion, your son has also left vulgar comments and threats on social media to Combine Academy staff members and students. You were notified of all of these infractions on multiple occasions, as well as prior and at the time of expulsion. The notification to you and your son has been attached as well as the log of infractions and breaches of the code of conduct policy.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The response is unacceptable and false. Not only did Combine take our money make false promises they now are trying to male my son look like a disrespectful, hooligan that has no respect and uses drugs and I am outraged by the response. I never received any communication from Combine until the night they asked him to leave he was never spoken to ever and the accusations are false. He was not enrolled in any classes, fall baseball was cut and practice was minimal. There lack of response then making up lies to not reimburse us is extremely outrageous facts should be reviewed.
Combine Academy has various digital records, student-athlete written statements, staff written statements, management written statements, and documentation of the multiple violations of your son. We furthermore, have record and documentation of the 3 disciplinary meetings with your son prior to his expulsion, as well as notification via email and phone call of the multiple violations. However, Combine Academy is dedicated to the advancement of all of its student-athletes, and with that, is willing to assist, in any way feasible and realistic, with the upward mobility and direction of your son's future. While we welcome the fact that we all make mistakes, your sons violation of our code of conduct on multiple occasions was not acceptable to exist as an attendee of our program. If there is anything further we can do, please email our administration at
6 months program did not deliver as promised.
6 months program did not deliver as promised. Program 2018-2019 Basketball. From September 23, 2018 to March 30, 2019. Location: ***. Amount of money paid: $12,000 USD.
We really think the academy still needs to work improving the food situation, more practice with coaches, evaluations one on one and other expectations we had. I believe at this point the academy doesn't meet the expectations we had at our first visit and conversation with you. I don't doubt Combine is a great academy, just needs more organization. The academy didn't complete the all requirements that were discussed with Coach L. Also, in a conversation Coach L mentioned they were still working on hiring new staff.
We paid in FULL what the academy requested, trusting the process in taking our son to next level. The academy in *** is just starting off new and the academy does not have the staff r the organization needed to preform professionally. My son still has communication with most of his teammates and he is one of varies who left.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks by a professional CHEF was offered and most of the time my son had to order food outside expending extra money. These young guys had a lot of free time, most of the time my son was in his room.
For this situation, we have decided to bring our son back home. I feel he was wasting his time there. We thought this academy will be training and working out almost every day. I thought they will be eating healthy and training full time.
We put a lot of sacrifice to send our son to Combine academy, What they offered was not what they gave. My son was not even a full month there and we were not going to keep waiting for the academy to figure out how to make it work. This had to be done before my son and other young fellows joined.
We have sent varies emails and the lack of communication from the academy is UNACEPTABLE. No communication at all, the only professional from the academy who responded to our emails is Coach L.
The followings are the email address that emails have been sent (Oct 24, Oct 26 and Nov 8) to:
Full refund amount of $12,000 plus apartment deposit of $250. I am not even requesting traveling and other expenses (More than $2,000) incurred to settle down my son at the academy.
Mrs.,
Thank you for your correspondence with our management team regarding your concerns about our program. While we have not been perfect this semester with our operation, many if not all of the value add services and promises made to you and your son were fulfilled. Like any business, we discovered some areas needing improvement at the beginning of the season, and with that quick identification, we were able to make the proper adjustments to enhance the areas needing improvement and make every young man and young women's experience at Combine Academy better. I am afraid that with your son's quick unenrollment from our program, that he was unable to recognize and benefit from the adjustments and enhancements to the areas of concern. However, while your son was with us, he was on a consistent meal plan, partook in multiple daily training sessions (Skill Development, Sports Performance Training, Conditioning, Team Practice, Regeneration), began playing a National Game Schedule, was enrolled in our SAT/ACT college test preparation courses, was extended a membership opportunity to our Future Leaders Initiative, and had multiple extracurricular activities and team activities to participate in. Many of the claims that you have made are both stretched and simply not true, as we assure that on an annual basis, both our consistent communication with our parents and students is unwavering and that our level of training and attention on college placement does not waver in quality and frequency.
We are still very much so committed to offering your son a tremendous and valuable experience at Combine Academy, and with that being said, would like to offer his re-enrollment position for 2nd semester. Since the day your son's commitment to Combine Academy was solidified contractually, his room & board, living arrangements, meals, roster position, enrollment in test preparation, and overall reservation in our academy has been fully reserved and has not wavered. With that being said, his unenrollment was solely the decision of the *** family. We as an organization were saddened to hear of your son's unenrollment in our organization, and can assure you that many enhancements to the areas of concern in our business have been made. Unfortunately, with your son leaving our campus within a few weeks after arrival, both he, nor your family, were able to experience the enhancements and positive adjustments that have made every student-athletes involvement at Combine Academy much more desirable.
If you have any questions or further feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us at your earliest convenience. We hope you have a great holiday and a Merry Christmas.
Kind Regards,
Combine Academy Management
The 7 week program advertised did not measure up to reality. He traveled from *** for the program. Accommodation, food, training all below par.
Date: 15th April - 3rd June 2018
Product: "Combine Academy's Spring College Placement Program for the upcoming 2018 season" Location: ***, ***.
Costs: $4700 US for the program which included the following:
Team activity fees, room reservation, competition/Equipment fee, COA (Tuition, room and board)
The cost of the Airfare, ***, return: $1,876.16AUD.
Early return change to the airfare: $200US
Cost of food purchased: $250 US
What really happened:
No food provided for the first week - had to purchase own from money budgeted for necessities, as food was promised for all but when the group went on the road to colleges.
In the supplied advertising brochure the food was to be prepared by a 'qualified chef' - Reality it was made in bulk, on one day, stored in the fridge for the week, by one of the coaches. 21 meals for the 3 boys staying at the cottage - by day 3 or 4 the meals had gone "off", so unable to be eaten, boys had to buy their own food which was not calculated for in our budget for our son's trip. The only fresh food were apples, which were eaten up early in the week.
Accommodation:
The bed provided was a bunk style suitable for a 12 year old not a 6'4" 18 yr old. After I made a complaint to one of the coaches, via email, they found him another twin bed - which was what was advertised in the brochure he was supposed to have when he arrived there.
He couldn't wash clothes for 2 weeks as the laundry room was locked. After complaining again, someone worked out an arrangement for him to wash when he wanted.
Climate control in the rooms: air-conditioner did not work. Numerous nights sweating in the heat until someone came eventually to clean a filter.
This program advertised that my son would be seen by college coaches, be driven to locations at least 15 - 20 occasions. He was seen by 3 college teams local to the area. That was it.
Most of the time was spent at the academy training and playing ball with the other 2 or 3 young men who had likewise been duped into paying for this charade. He could have done this at home in ***.
He was promised the basketball uniform (he was given some cast offs from one of the last coaches he had just before he left).
Coaches changed over regularly in the short period of time my son was there. Only the last coach he had actually gave advice and encouragement for his playing style.
My son is a student in ***, I am retired on a pension, and my husband is on a pension. The total amount we spent on this trip for our son took our nest-egg because we were promised this would set him on his career pathway in basketball. I believe that Combine Academy has misled our son and us. Their advertising said the program started in April when in reality it started in September.
I have emails and communication from Combine Academy which shows what they said they would do and what they did.
From accounts of other participants in the program this April - June session was not well planned for, they only had 3 other young men there. As the time went on they dropped off, leaving our son bewildered and so badly disappointed.
Either a full refund on all of the costs expended to get my son to and home from the program. This includes airfares, food spent outside of that provided Or Combine Academy to pay for my son to attend the proper program in September 2018 - including travel and other incidentals he might need while he travels. One of his parents to attend with him fully paid for as we don't trust them.
Combine Academy writes to refute the comments made by Ms.. Please see the responses to her complaints below:
1. Athletes were provided meals over the course of the entire program. There was never a point in time in which food was not available to athletes whether in the cottage or the cafeteria. Ms. son was a vegetarian and did not alert staff of this, so student was not eating prepared meals. Once we learned he was vegetarian we changed his diet completely to accommodate him appropriately.
2. The meals that were provided over the course of each week were at no point "off." Many other fresh foods were provided including pineapples, peaches, apples, oranges.
3. The athlete was not discriminated or prejudiced and given a smaller bed in any way. All of the beds that we utilize on campus, whether bunk style or single style are twin extra long. Regardless of the size of the athlete on our campus they are afforded the same sleeping conditions, similar to a college campus.
4. As recommended by our insurance company we no longer provide free range use of washer and dryer, this creates significant liability for fire and flooding, athletes were provided scheduled laundry when supervised
5. There was short in the wiring on the thermostat, an issue that was not revealed until our staff for several days, upon learning of the issue, it was rectified in 24 hours.
6. Mr. decided to leave the program early to the dismay of our staff. Over the course of what would have been his remaining time here there were at least three additional workouts set up. In addition. Mr *** is an intentional student with us, because of this, the options for collegiate workouts were limited, as colleges would have to recruit him as an international student which requires significant additional work to said college. This is a situation that was out of Combine Academy's control.
7. Over the course of the program Mr *** was given two sets of Adidas dry-fit tops, two sets of Adidas dry-fit bottoms, two Adidas cotton t-shirts, 3 dry fit training shirts and two pairs of athletic training shorts.
8. Standard to any business or athletic team, spring time is a point in time when coaching turnover is high, this was a result of our employees receiving higher level jobs, therefore we made the appropriate hires to replace staff members, this is normal to any business.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
1. The first two weeks *** attended the program he and the other participants had to provide their own food, going to ***, ordering pizzas, etc. This cost him money that was not allocated to food, as per the attached document. At no time was any food provided by a cafeteria. The food was prepared by one of the coaches in bulk at the cottage where they were staying. The type of food was prone to spoiling quickly being prepared in a large quantity. This meant that the meals did not last the week before spoiling. The type of vegetarian food was inadequate.
2. The only fresh foods provided were apples and lettuce leaves and baby carrot sticks. These fresh items were not in abundant quantity so were eaten before *** could get his share. Hence he was hungry a lot of the time.
3. I have attached email correspondence that I initiated with the Combine coaching staff to sort out a proper bed for ***. It wasn't until 10 days after *** arrived that anything was done to provide a suitable bed for him.
4. Also see the email communication regarding the access to the washing machine and dryer.
5. The air conditioner was seen but not fixed.
6. Also see the emails regarding the workouts. *** was promised in the program outline that they would be on the road for at least 15 visits to colleges. *** went to one college in the area and one coach came to Combine. The promises of more coaches coming to see him based on what he had already experienced he believed was false. That is why he left the program a week early.
What I would like is for Combine Academy to ensure their communications to prospective participants in these programs is clear and not mislead young people to believe they could set them up with exposure to college coaches who may offer them College placements. If the situation for International students was out of Combine's hands then they should never have accepted *** into their program. He would have been better off waiting for another opportunity or applied for the September camp instead.
7. *** was provided with - 1 not 2 sets of Adidas dry-fit tops, 2 sets of Adidas dry-fit bottoms, 2 Adidas cotton t-shirts. He did not receive any dry fit training shirts and only 1 pair of athletic training shorts. He did not received the Combine athletic jersey with his number on it nor the Combine academy jumper. These were itemized in the college placement package which I have attached. *** provided his size and his number for the jersey before he left ***.
8. The excuse that this was not the best time of the year for *** to expect coaches to stay is ridiculous. If this wasn't the best time for him to attend then this should have been stated and he would not have gone at this time of the year.
During the 6 weeks that *** was at Combine Academy he was seen by 2 coaches, and these seemed to be hastily arranged more in response to my emails to the coaches than by careful planning.
Combine Academy is making a range of changes and upgrades to their *** campus, changes which started in week 5 of ***'s stay. If there was a need to make such changes *** would have been able to benefit from them if he hadn't accepted the placement in April and waited until the September program when all of the new facilities had been completed.
To cap off the issues previously outlined, *** was told by a person in charge - someone he trusted, who took the lectures etc, a person *** dealt with on a day to day basis - that the program was to be cut short by a week, finishing on the 28th May instead of the 3rd of June. This obviously was upsetting for *** not knowing if he could get back to ***, where he would stay if he couldn't get home etc. This kind of dis-organisation is really unsettling for an 18 yr old. When I communicated with Combine about this change I was asked who told *** that information. By this time *** was so disappointed and disillusioned with the whole experience he just wanted to come home. Which he did. He lost a week of the program because the organisation and communication provided was poor and inadequate from the outset.
If other young people think that Combine Academy will be able to help them get a step up into the career of basketball they need to think again. Certainly not if they are an international student.
Combine Academy as Advertised was supposed to house the Athletes in a Luxury Apartments or Dorms. Never Happen instead the were put in hotel.
Combine Academy as per contract and Advertisement was supposed house the athletes in a "luxury apartment" or dorm. Instead of adhering to the contract the Athletes were placed in a hotel were it was 4 athletes per room with 2 double beds forcing to Athletes per bed. Keep in mine that these Athletes were strangers to each other and made to feel uncomfortable. I made a room deposit of 700.00 prior to my son going out there as a deposit was required for a dorm room. I'm requesting a refund for my room deposit, my son left the program because of his discomfort and sleep deprivation due to him not receiving his own bed as promised.
I'm seeking a total refund of 700.00 for the room deposit.
Combine Academy has different levels, or "tiers", of housing for student-athletes, all dependent upon their tuition price point. Many of these claims and comments are of inaccurate nature, fiction, and not accurately portrayed. Your son was place in temporary housing upon arrival for our "Training Boot Camp" period that we practice annually to build team camaraderie, bonding, and fellowship. Your son's entire team was placed temporarily upon arrival in the same housing, but with no complaints or concerns for this "Training Boot Camp" period. Your son unenrolled with us after only 10 days, not giving the program or himself a chance to excel. 85% of our student-athletes were placed in college scholarship situations following this season. The remaining 15% were students like your son that decided not to persevere through the challenges and see the program through. However, as previously explained and stated, we are extremely committed to your sons advancement at the college level, and would even be willing to offer him an internship, work study program, or potential employment opportunity. While we appreciate your feedback, we both had and currently have a tremendous group of hard working and character driven student-athletes that are both enjoying and valuing from their experience here at Combine Academy. We would love to rectify your experience if you could email any further details to
While attending combine academy they offered tutoring as well online classes which includes financial aid they threatened me if I didn't sign over my check I would not get to participate in the basketball activities now I'm in a 4000 depth because they won't send my checks back to me.
Contact by the Business Looking to file a law suit.
We would like to dispute the claims that Ms. is making. As part of Ms. enrollment agreement with Combine, Ms. ink-signed a contract stating that she would use her Federal Financial Aid to pay for her tuition with us, because she could not make payments out of her own pocket.
The clause reads "I, ***, am fully aware and agree that I must ink sign my remaining FAFSA Financial Aid Refund checks and remaining *** Financial Aid Refund Checks over to Combine Basketball LLC on each day that they arrive"
We have ink signed contracts to prove this matter if needed. If there is anything else that I can do for you, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you for your time,
Nathan B
