Academy. Colonial Shooting Academy has maintained compliance with the
[redacted] Code Chapter 10 Article III. NOISE and Code of [redacted]
§15.2-917 Applicability of local noise...
ordinances to certain sport shooting
ranges since the opening of the business in April 2012.
Once Colonial Shooting Academy received the initial compliant, we immediately began
to work towards a resolution beginning in April 2012. Our initiatives included
acoustic foam insulation in order to help further reduce the noise level at a
considerable expense to a new business that was not required by [redacted].
Additionally,CSA requested a site follow-up visit on our noise ordinance compliance with the
planning commissioner and a board of supervisor member in November 2012.
During their visit, they found that CSA was still in compliance with the
[redacted] Noise Ordinance.
Colonial Shooting Academy continues the noise abatement plan that was initiated in April
2012.
We appreciate the opportunity to share our efforts towards noise reduction.
Colonial Shooting Academy continually strives to be an active community
partner.
Review: The Colonial Shooting Academy, an indoor firing range, is in violation of a [redacted] noise ordinance. Gunfire from the Academy is audible inside homes up to one-half a mile away. After repeated phone calls to the Academy their [redacted], asserts they are not concerned about noise that emanates from the building that can be heard inside homes and businesses for several blocks surrounding the business.Desired Settlement: The Colonial Shooting Academy needs to establish a sound abatement plan that keeps the noise from gunfire to a level that is not heard over a quarter of a mile away.
