Hi [redacted],
The following is the Coleman University response to complaint [redacted]. I have also attached the response in a Word document.
Coleman University
March 3,...

2014
Response to Revdex.com complaint [redacted]

Coleman University is pleased to have the opportunity to respond to this complaint and also hopes to resolve it with the student. A meeting for that purpose was scheduled with the student on February 26, but was rescheduled for March 12 at the request of the student.

The mission of Coleman University is to prepare students for meaningful professional careers in information technology and business, while providing an environment where those who become a part of this academic community may develop their full potential as human beings.

The complaint states that at the time of enrollment the student understood that Coleman was a trade school. Coleman University offers career-focused degrees, but is not a trade school and does not represent itself as such. Trade or vocational schools offer only employment-oriented courses. Coleman only enrolls students in academic degree programs, because employers of our students 9+8 demand a more well-rounded education than that provided by trade schools. The student read and signed an enrollment agreement that stated that he was enrolling in an undergraduate degree program in Computer Network Technology (CNT), a 108-unit Associate of Science degree program. The nature of this degree program is explained in detail in the University Catalog that is provided to all prospective students. The student initialed the following statement in the enrollment agreement: “The applicant has received a current Coleman University Catalog with addendum (if any) and a copy of the Campus Crime Statistics. The Applicant understands the services to which he/she is entitled are described in the University’s catalog and that no representation, except as expressed in writing, are binding on either party. Initial ___.

Coleman is seeking WASC accreditation, but that has not changed our career focus. The changes being made are for the purpose of improving the quality of our curriculum, instructional faculty, and instructional methods. WASC accreditation efforts have not changed our “inverted curriculum” in which students begin with their major technology courses and later begin the general education courses needed to complete the degree. Other than the above mentioned improvements and other curricular changes that Coleman makes each year to stay current with the needs of the technology industry that employs our graduates, the student’s program has not changed.

The student states that our classes are overcrowded with no hands on. The classes in the student’s program are limited to 24 in those classrooms equipped with computers and 18 in others. They are not overcrowded. Our emphasis is on providing students with the conceptual knowledge and practical skills they need for employment in the technology industry. Therefore, the curriculum is designed with an appropriate mix of conceptual and practical (“hands-on”) elements. Students will take some courses that are mostly conceptual, some courses that are a mix of conceptual and practical, and some (such as the capstone recently taken by the student) that are completely “hands-on.” The combined learning outcomes of all of these courses prepare students for meaningful careers in the technology industry.

The student states that his contract has changed, but has not. The student has been and is continuing to be provided with the education and services agreed to in the enrollment agreement.

Please let me know if you require any further information.

Sincerely,

Review: I am a current student at Coleman university and have been attending this school since May of 2012. When I agreed to go to this school, I was sold on the fact that I was going to get a degree in computer networking and if I wanted; I could pursue a network security degree after the networking degree. Little did I know that the school is trying to get a WASC accreditation, and in doing that they are dropping the computer networking program and are no longer offering the networking degree. I was told that the only way I could receive a networking degree is by completing the duel degree that once used to be optional. I do not want a network security degree simply because their are no entry level positions for this degree. This school is changing my major that I am paying for without my permission. They are reneging on an agreement that we had and refusing to teach me what I'm paying to learn.Desired Settlement: I want to be able to compete my networking degree and still have the option get my net sec degree if I feel up to it. If coleman cannot accommodate that, then I want a refund of the $27,000 worth of classes that I have been taking for the past 2 years.

Review: I have attended Coleman University for approximately one year (to present) and have been a full time student since enrollment. I am now only one class away from attaining my Associates degree

and Coleman has up to this point collected over 23,000 dollars for all the class I have already completed toward getting my Associates degree.

Now they as of recently implemented a very brand new class called Powershell in which requires a lab yet they refuse to offer me an official lab day to understand how to execute and actually complete the labs.

So in essence this brand new class is a complete set up for failure and yet they still are getting paid 1,300 dollars while I have written both deans of the school and tried to explain that even the textbook within

this class require a lab.

I feel that is highly unethical for any Establishment to take money yet not offer the proper resources for students to actually succeed, Coleman University has not delivered all the promises they delivered since day

one of enrollment "stating I would be receiving hands on training" which is a flat out untrue.Desired Settlement: I Want to retake Powershell class at zero cost! Since Coleman's deans refuse to offer an official lab day, both deans have been approached about this Particular Powershell class and one of the Deans

even stated that they in the future where "planning on making Powershell class a Bachelors level "course due to the complexity, so in essence I am paying to be a experiment in failing which is

totally unfair because there are getting paid thousands of dollars to actually teach and give students the resources needed to actually learn and that why lab days are so critical because that

when students get the hands on training that Coleman promised when I first enrolled a year ago. I honestly feel they should be sued for false advertisement.

Regards,

Review: I signed up to take classes at Coleman in May of 2012 to earn a degree in Computer Networking with the option to earn a dual bachelors in networking security. as of right now they are longer offering a computer networking degree and only the network security degree is being offered. I decided to come to Coleman solely based on the classes I would receive specifically Cisco Academy classes which are no longer offered under the new degree.

I already had 15 years experience in the IT industry and I new what I need to add to my education. but now Coleman has changed the curriculum with notifying the students. I really don't care what the title of the degree is I just want them to honor the the course offering that I wanted and signed into an agreement with Coleman.Desired Settlement: honor their agreement or refund all my tuition (federal loans) and keep credits for what I have completed.

Review: I am currently attending classes at this college and when I agreed to enroll in my courses it was understood that Coleman was a trade school, not a wasci accredited university. As my courses progressed it was clear that Coleman wanted to take steps to obtain a Wasci accreditation, however in doing so Coleman needed to change the way they taught classes. Coleman emphasized hands on class room environments with very few students, now that they are in the middle of the accreditation process all classes have became over crowded and no hands on work. It seems highly unfair that this process of accreditation has been forced on current students who did not sign up to attend an actual college, instead they had the idea of attending a trade school. With these changes that have been made it seems like an unauthorized change to the contract or agreement and current students had no say in the process. It is very stressful to go to a school that cost a lot of money and then have the agreement and contracted changed without a new contract drawn up or an agreement to pay for these new services. I would have never enrolled in this school if I was aware of the changes they were trying to make and the impact it would have on my learning outcomes.Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed for my money that I am wrongfully in debt to a school that can not hold up their end of the contract.
